How much would a good camera cost? I've only had a digital camera, and I do like it because I can take a lot of pictures and get rid of the ones I don't want, but I'd love to get a "real" camera for my art

Well Jaycee just bought a Digital SLR (a "real" camera but Digital) for about £1000 if that helps. have a look round different camera specialist shops.. remember if you go cheap you'll get cheap.

I'm taking broadcasting TV and i was forced to take photography
The best cameras to learn on are SLR's, i orginaly bought a electronic SLR,

but couldn't take it anymore with the fact that it cost a ton to buy and get film devloped.

So i went out and baught a digital SLR.

    http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=9430

SLR's can cost around a couple $100 bucks, but the problem is they use film
and we are entering a age where film, tape and etc is being replaced by
    storage devices.

memory cards, CD's, DVD's and etc so i whouldn't recomend bying a camera that uses film.

I have the canon EOS Rebel, it cost me $1300 cdn.

You can buy a digital camera, however you will not get the same controls as a SLR does for example you won't be able to change shutter speed,
    I-S-O(film speed), and etc.

so its a give and take.

a digital camera is easier to devlop, but it doesn't have the same profesonial features as an SLR.

and an electornic SLR doesn't have the easy picture devlopment Digital cameras do.

you can get a digital SLR, but the cost will blast you away.

but for art an SLR is better, but for a quick capture digital cameras are better.

You can find a good professional camera from 600-100$, try looking into main manufecturor's websites, or googling.

Look for at least a good 10x zoom, (digetal or not is your choice)
    and more than 6 mpx...

Decent film SLR isn't too expensive, you can get an okay as low as like $150, digital SLR are way more expensive... To get a decent one it will probably cost at least $1000... Of course over time its cheaper not having to pay for film etc...

I use an old Canon AE-1...it is a great camera, and you can usually find good used ones for about $200-$300.

well, definatly go for slr over digital, or slr/digital if you got the cash, but the best bet especially if you arnt sure you will continue much with photography after this class is to get a used 35mm. at a good camera store you can trust they will be in fine condition to take pictures, and definatly will be much cheaper. also, youll get the real feel of a manual camera with an older model

If you're gonna buy a digital camera, make sure it has an optical zoom, if you buy one with, say, a 10x digital zoom and zoom right in, the quality of the pic will be pretty bad. It'll end up grainy looking coz of the pixels. Its better to have a camera where the lens zooms as opposed to the camera itself.

So how much would one of these cameras cost? On average, for a general good camera?

the better camera to get is a digital,

unless you plan on developing your own film. digital will give you more control over the pic and how you choose to print it.

digital will also help if you are just starting out in photography as you can see you pics almost immediately and not days or weeks later.

you will want to look for a pro style slr or semi pro consumer they allow you more control over the camera.

pro style also allow you to change the lenes.

the more the mega pixels the better, 6-8 megapixels to start for a professional.

they start at around $1000 for for a pro slr camera body. lenes are extra.

what is the digital camera you have now loveflower?

    Canon Powershot A300

    It's got 3.2 MegaPixels and.. 5.1 Zoom

It's really a great camera, it takes great pictures, you can record 3 minute movies in different modes (black and white, vibrant, sepia)

Lots of options, self timers, different flashes and landscape modes for taking up close pictures or far away pictures. It also has a thing that you can take one picture right after another, instantly

thats a good little pocket camera, the only thing is no optical zoom.

so how much do you want to spend?

digital SLR rebels are some of the best, they are about $900-800

I use a digital point n shoot and a camera phone for snapshots and two old (older than me) SLRs and a Holga, for my art. I love film. I think it's really cool that I've learned to make a great photo, from the camera, and not have to mess with it in Photoshop.

My SLRs cost me 80 and 50 dollars, respectively (Minoltas, on E-bay), with regular lenses. But I have purchased more lenses, for more options. My Holga cost me about 30 I think, its a modified Holga... My digital pns was 300, so was my phone.

Photography is definitely not a cheap hobby. But, I couldn't imagine life without it. And I hope and pray that digital does not completely replace film. I love it! :)
