As many of you probably already know, Camden, New Jersey, is quite possibly literally hell on Earth. If not that, it is definitely the worst city in the United States. The epitome of urban decay and the crime and dilapidation that comes with it. For example, this is not a slum in some second world country, this is Camden New Jersey: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/69/Camden_NJ_poverty.jpg As some of you might also have heard, Camden facing severe budget cuts, and New Jersey's governor being a fat asshole who will cut every dime from any project or city aid, a few days ago laid off 1/2 it's police force. Maybe you didn't hear me, Camden, New Jersey, laid off half its police force at once.(and they already had a murder like 18 hours after it came into effect) Well to top it off, you can apparently listen to Camden's police scanner on the internet right here: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?action=wp&feedId=495 and here's a list of the codes if you want to feel really fancy: http://forums.radioreference.com/ne...on-forum/196819-camden-city-police-codes.html Literally the moment I tuned into it I heard 5 males and 3 females trying to jump a cabbie that had been stopped at a light. While you listen, here's some awesome anecdotal stories about Camden. There's a saying from New Jersey, don't get lost in Newark at night, and just don't go to Camden. There's one golden rule of Camden, never, ever come to a complete stop. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/01/18/national/main7258223.shtml It's so awesome, google street view managed to catch a drug deal in action!(Also the fact it looks like a Brazilian slum in the backround)
Well from my understanding there's enough stray shell casings on the ground you can probably collect enough to sell for scrap.
A girl got shot thursday from stray bullets. The residents are already blaming the lack of cops as the reason... I'll try to find the article again. http://www.courierpostonline.com/ar...bank-robbery-show-crime-doesn-t-take-vacation
That's nice and all... especially considering how one might accessorize a wardrobe with spent shell casings... every necklace has a story but I'm thinking the motivated minds of those stuck in such a place might want to arm themselves... and throwing spent casings at a would-be attacker might buy you some time if he finds it particularly funny and has tom stop and laugh. Personally, I think the legitimate citizens should be armed to the hilt so they can at least attempt to protect themselves. I wonder if somewhere, budget cuts necessitate automated answering systems that force callers to navigate multiple menus via phone keypads... "all our dispatchers are currently busy helping other callers- please do not hang up as that will delay response time. Calls are answered in the order that they are received... for English press 1... para Espanol..."
cops are barely in camden anyway, serizously. once in a while there will be a bunch near where drug dealers normally stand but they rarely even come out unless you hear an ambulance along with them they have those guardian angel bullshitters that stand around at normally only 1 out of the 3 train stations, and no one gives a shit about them. it is like an illegal supermarket there during the day and an off place at night... it is not persay scary but i hear gang calls all of the time. the united states is unleashin' camden!
Take that, "nobody will go to work and everyone will steal everything and it will be awesome" anarchist crowd. I'm looking at you, CrimethINC. That picture doesn't look too bad, just like an average poor new england milltown, after everything was outsourced to child slaves in asia. But it does sound like a serious shithole. The kind of shithole I have no sympathy for, because it's a shithole by choice.
you must not have seen many slums in your life if you think the photo you added looks bad. that's prime real estate man.
I'm not sure you've met the kind of people I have... the kind of people that presumably live in camden. Where I used to live, where town was actually big enough to have a bad side, they where there by choice. A lot of those people could be given a mansion, a benz, a stocked bank account, and it would all be in ruins in a week. Meanwhile, the people next door would still be slowly but surly forging ahead to buy their way out of the "whetto". So of course not everyone enjoys it. But a large enough majority do to keep it that way. I expect that like most dangerous places, they run "take back" or "turn in" campaigns to collect guns, and discourage ownership, stink. Of course, however, at the point this kind of place is it, less guns doesn't mean safer, it just means the wrong people have em.
the drug dealers own the town obviously. that is not a large majority to me...no more then 35% (which i think may even be too high of an assumption) . since people are scared of them it may seem that way, thus making it hard to rebuild the city. well well well this thread is stupid but beings i have nothing better to do at 2am ...on the 'ok' side of camden the apartments are totally not expensive compared to mostly all other housing in new jersey and in philadelphia so of course the bad part is even cheaper. if you are raised in this area, and end up having no money.. cheep housing is where to go- unfortunately it is a 'bad' city. camden used to be a good large city until what, the great depression eh, when all the businesses got shut down? people fled to where work was leaving it a dust town. when any things are left to dust it normally turns into something bad. a home in a good neighborhood gets abandoned and people start to fuck around in it. if a lot of camden inhabitants were given these things i really think that would take the offers. there are a few different inhabitants of camden (as well as other areas) 1. drug addicts 2. students that aren't drug addicts (the people next door) 3. old folks that don't sell drugs (the people next door) 4. people with less money (the people next door) 5. drug dealers (will want it all unless they be hood and reppin der shit.. kids) am drug AdDiCtS: benz 1. let me keep this benz to make me feel like i'm living the life! and to have a ride to my fix.. hopefully i don't get car jacked! 2. let me sell this benz so i can pay rent and buy drugs 3. shit, my benz got stolen (or pieces of it is missing & is ruined) bank account 1. man i am in a city with drugs everywhere and now i can pay my rent and my drugs. 2. fuck yeah i can pay my rent in this city that is really close to a lot of things and buy my drugs. 3. maybe i can move to a city and buy my drugs 4. rehab? (back to camden or move away) manson 1. this mansion is not in camden where are my drugs 2. let me sell this mansion for drugs 3. mansion and drugs the drug addicts are not most of the people.. i would say 25% (which are a lot of humans) i guess do make the city bad... another 35% of drug dealers that i doubt all want to make the city bad but they are just trying to make it by... then there are the 40% of us 'people next door' that would like the city to get better... that do not have a say in shit... really cannot do anything about it. the only other group of people from camden i can see to that would not take those fake opportunities you mentioned are the older people that were raised there and are used to it all. they barely get fucked with anyway.
Yeah Camden is pretty fucked up. It's a shame that people are raised in an environment such as that one. As far as the picture, you can find streets like that in any ghetto.
Hate to see that. Poverty with the cultural influence of rap and money pushes pretty much any kid born there towards selling drugs. You can say all you want about how people are there by choice but when your raised on that shit it's hard to get out.
Somehow I doubt rap had much to do with it considering most other American cities haven't gone Camden.(Yes Camden is now a metaphor by decree of me)
