As if we need MORE evidence that Bush is covering up the REAL truth of the Iraqi prison systematic abuse of prisoners, we now know that BUSH, RUMSFELD & ASHCROFT all signed off on it! And evidently it INCLUDED American Soldiers Raping Boys and filming it! Your taxpayer dollars at work, my fellow AmeriKKKans, So BUSH now HIDES evidence of CRIMES committed under his command, as a result of his orders. And so MANY still trust this liar, conman, thief, cokehead, you call president. New Evidence : Bush Misleads on Prison Abuse Scandal The MisLeader / MoveOn.org July 15th, 2004 President Bush has claimed that the prison abuse scandal in Iraq was just "conduct by a few American troops."1 But with Congress investigating the scandal,2 a series of explosive new reports provides evidence that the tactics may have been approved at the highest levels of government. Even worse, one leading investigative journalist says the Administration is holding videotapes of soldiers sodomizing Iraqi children. According to a newly released Pentagon memo from 2002, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld personally authorized the use of controversial interrogation tactics,3 including using dogs to intimidate, stripping prisoners of their clothes and placing hoods on prisoners so they cannot see. Rumsfeld also ordered military officials to hold prisoners without listing them on prisoner rolls requested by the International Red Cross.4 And according to Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, who was the head of detention operations at Abu Ghraib, Rumsfeld "approved tactics at the prison"5 directly. As reported by Newsweek, these memos and orders were signed off by Rumsfeld, President Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft and were part of a "secret system of detention and interrogation that opened the door to such methods"6 of abuse seen in Iraq. Making matters worse, investigative journalist Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker told the American Civil Liberties Union this week that videotapes were made of young boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib. "The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told the group's convention. Hersh reports there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher." See the video of Hersh's ACLU speech7 - the information about the prison comes at about 1 hour and 30 minutes in. Sources: 1. Because you know, MoveOn.org is the place to go for good, unbiased, non-politically motivated news right?
Fine, my first response was a bit hasty and dismissive, but I just read the "sources" and what Skip says isn't exactly what the articles entail. He exaggerates and draws lines where none should be drawn, plus a lot of it is just speculation. There's a big difference between "coercive tactics" and sodomizing children. Plus, has anyone bothered to realize that the prisoners in Abu Ghraib were the ones who killed (or tried to kill) American civilians and innocent Iraqis? That maybe they had information that we need in order to protect innocent Iraqis and Amrican soldiers? You think? And just because some chump on the news claims that the administration is holding tapes of children being sodomized doesn't mean that the administration is holding tapes of children being sodomized.
"Some 70 percent to 90 percent of Iraqi detainees were arrested "by mistake," according to coalition intelligence officers cited in a Red Cross report disclosed.." http://www.dailystar.com/dailystar/dailystar/21552.php http://www.turks.us/article.php?story=2004051206403971 "...a report completed in February by the International Committee of the Red Cross and leaked to media outlets Monday found that up to 90 percent of Iraqis held by U.S. and allied troops have been arrested by mistake." http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/05/10/iraq.abuse.main/index.html
Like Ive said before, it would be most interesting to see how many of those, who simply recite what the mainstream news tell them is so, will find themselves in a similar circumstance when one day it is the next world power invading our soil and rounding up those who stand in their way (as any patriot should do for his or her country in the face of foreign domination) as well as many many more who simply happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (or dare enquire as to the whereabouts of a family member, friend, or neighbour). Remember, the example not only our military but our media and our population set for the world as we shrug off gross ongoing abrogation of human rights by our military machine and our government aparatus with the glib belief that "they must be guilty or they wouldnt have been detained", will be precisely what our citizenry can expect in return when we are the ones under occupation. God forbid we should stand with one voice and apply some moral consistency in demanding full accountability from our leaders, no that would run counter to partisan aspirations and the "root for the home team" mentality we have been conditioned to adopt. Groupthink at its finest.
How was he defending the "sodomites"? Better yet how do you EVEN know that sodomy was commited? Have you seen the tapes?
Whoa whoa hold on, who said I was defending soldiers who sodomized children? Hell, who evern said that soldiers sodomized children? Some reporter who "claims" that tapes exist that show children being sodomized? If he/she has never actually seen the tapes and only claims that they exist, how do we know that children are, in fact, being sodomized on said tapes? And can you quote my post, because I sure as hell can't find where in it I defended child molesters. As for the prisoners not being guilty, my bad, I didn't get that "news" from anywhere, I just assumed that those who are in the most notorious prison in Iraq probably did something wrong to get there. I think that's a logical assumption.
well it seems like you are defending the abusive troops, so I made a "logical assumption" that you were sticking up for the sodomites.
GA & MaxPower, Why not take it where you'll be believed... http://freerepubliclosers.com Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! BTW, the source for this info, Seymour Hersh has been spot on with every revelation he's made about Bush's administration & the war in Iraq.
Hersh is not just "some reporter", and you probably would have reacted with the same denial to ANY allegations of torture before the first photos come out. I think you're giving the benefit of the doubt to the wrong side here.
Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming. This coming from the king of those who pounce on any claim in immediate knee jerk fashion, labelling it "fringe conspiracy theory" until it cannot any longer be kept hushed up by mainstream media. Could this be evidence that PB has at long last had an epiphany of intellectual honesty and has now adopted a questioning spirit towards those he has long defended? The court awaits the verdict with baited breath.
Skippy, I'll believe the tapes when I see them. I won't give anyone the benefit of the doubt, especially not journalists (any journalist). Until you see the tapes yourself, all you can do is speculate and assume. Pointbreak, way to stand up for your boy, but I'm not giving anyone the benefit of the dount. Could soldiers have sodomized children? Sure. But all the same, I'll believe it when I see it. It's not like journalists don't have political messages that they try to send out to the public.
all you can do is speculate and assume that those prisoners are held there at abu grab prison for good reason (because they were killing US soldiers?? another assumption). all these different people who support our government and the war in iraq have conflicting reasons for those people who were being held in the prison. You are saying that they were killing US soldiers, others were saying that they are assumed terrorists so they are interrogated and the torture deal is all part of the process. From what I read, most of those prisoners at abu grab where let go, because they had nothing to really hold them there on.
Ok folks. Please inform me what news source I am allowed to believe. Please let me know wich one YOU believe in so everything will be ok. Hypocrites. This is pathetic. Just another liberal attempt to make Bush look bad. Here is an idea, if you have such a problem with the way things are going do something. Something meaning more that posting on an online forum. I mean it, get off your ass and do something. Until then, quit bringing your bleeding heart lies here, it's realy getting old.
