i don't understand what happened. i've made this recipe dozens of times. it's the kids' favorite. but for some reason instead of baking as normal, they burnt on top while they're still gloppy in the middle, and have puffed up and overflowed dramatically from the pan, burning on the bottom of the oven. i don't understand it, i didn't do anything different. has anyone else ever had a old, often-made recipe just go suddenly haywire for no apparent reason?
both my kids are allergic to wheat, so it was either learn to bake of pay $7 for a loaf of bread. i'm really baffled by this. it's almost as if this recipe made more than usual. maybe the eggs were too large?
That's odd, yeah factors relating to the eggs--age, size, previous storage--could have definitely been the cause. Sorry about your brownies.
well, except for the dark brown part in the middle of the top, they're actually not totally ruined - just really odd loking because they puffed up all over the place, ran over the edge of the pan and then relaxed. they still taste good. i'v never seen them do this before.
i was wondering if the heat and humidity here might be affecting it. it's really hot and humid. i wish the cook was stoned. unfortunately, they weren't that kind of brownies.
your levening agents went screwy. maybe you put an ingredient, forgot you did so, and ended up putting double the amount.
nope, no twice-added ingredients. i make this recipe often. i'm really wondering if it was the eggs though. they were kind of big.
