Hi All I am experiencing budding problems with my plants. They are OASIS 100% female seeds, which have grown really well in veg state. Now, after weeks of 12 hour light cycle (at least 8) they are trying like mad to produce buds, but instead are making tiny leaves, some of which are resin coated, It also smells very resinous! My hunch is that I've over fertilized, or the temp is wrong in the room (too cold?) If I've over fertilized, can I flush it with water to get the buds to form, or have I lost the crop? are there any signs except lack of bud that you've over done the nutes? what temp have you got the room? how long they been on 12/12 - it took a good few weeks for my plants to start budding in up properly ... can you get a pic?
I'm afraid that I can't get a pic, as my camera creates files that are too big to upload! However, the plants don't show any other signs of over fertililisation. The grow area is a corner of a quite large cellar, where temps have dropped very low recently (UK). I also removed the largest fan leaves when they started budding, as I hoped this would encourage more buds. Is the plant trying to replace these? I will buy a small heater and a thermometer to get a better idea of what is going on temps-wise, and hopefully improve the flowering. Will the plant push out buds if I get the conditions right? They are very vigorous and healthy. Thanks for your response.
Well, what fertilizers are you using, what's the ratio? Also, it can take 2-4 weeks for your plant to switch over from vegi to flowering. What type of lights are you using?
how old are the plants? they may not be old enough for flowering. the temp can be as pretty low, 60's and you'll get some kind of buds though warmer is better. what kind of light are do you have on them? if you over-fertilized them no worries. stop the fertilizer and just keep them on 12/12 and eventually they'll bud. it's definately not a loss. my guess is that's where the problem is. your yield will probably be reduced depending on how long it takes for buds to form.
Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. I think the overnight temp has dropped well below 50 at times. As i said above, I now have a heater and thermometer, and the room seems to be steady at 62f. Believe it or not, I'm quite an experienced grower, and have grown in this room for over 18 months, with no problems (but different strains). The only other change is the leaf removal, (which was only the larger leaves), but which I realise now may have shocked the plants. I am using a 250w sodium light for flowering, and again this has always been fine in the past, as has my regular organic fertilizer. By the way, the plants have reached 1m + in height, and are several months old, and flowering has been induced for over two months now. Thank you once again for your suggestions! Mr Budz
hey budzrgud, several things: pics are the best format to help get a diagnosis. Either set your camera to make smaller file sizes or use software on your computer to get the pics to the right size and make them uploadable. Failure to flower seems to be centered around too little energy available to the plant. If it's already a meter tall, one soium light at 250w will not give it enough light coverage for it's size. Combine that with the very low temps and the plant just can't do it. On top of that you removed the greatest energy harvesting part of your plant, the big fan leaves at the time that they gather the energy for synthesizing the secondary structures (the flowers and small "frosty trim" {LuMpTy's term}). Show us a good pic after you make some corrections. b1
Sometimes people take off the fan leaves when they yellow, or look like they are going to fall off. I would leave them on no matter what, even when drying. When they don't supply nutrients, they coat and protect. Try to get a small space heater to bring your temp to the upper 70s. Set it up with a termometer that switches off when it gets too high.
