This is an album I've always loved, back in the summer of 1987. There weren't many albums out then and so this one got played a lot. I think Bryan Adams is a bit underrated, certainly his early 80's stuff anyway, the Robin Hood song and subsequent releases were pretty rubbish. But you can't fault his early 80's Americana rock sound. He was on a par with Springsteen in those days. Anyway I decided to revisit this album and got me a copy of the remastered 2014 reissue and some of the bonus tracks are totally rocking man! There's a bit of ZZ Top in there and maybe also the title track Reckless is quite a lot like some of the late 80's glam rock bands like Poison and and Faster Pussycat. Bit weird that the song Reckless, which as it turns out is really fucking good as well was left off the original album release. I wonder why? Maybe it was considered a bit too non-commercial and they thought the album would flop, in those days metal was still very much part of a very alternative scene, but now it's fairly commercial.
Does anyone know if the original 1984 copy of this record was mixed in analog?? It sounds like it was but it was done by BOB CLEARMOUNTAIN so Im not sure....... (He started digitally mixing records in 1981) Was this record mixed from 1/2 inch tape in analog, anyone know??
I imagine my cassette of the album is mostly static from the playing over and over. I probably didn't notice it back then because most of my cassettes were like that.
I can't find anything on the Internet about the original mixing. There's no way to tell from the information on the case. I'm looking at it right now. I'm not sure if a person could tell by listening to the cassette or not. I'd have to look around for the actual cassette. Krokus - Change of Address was inside the case.
Now we just need to find out if Ludwig did digital or analog during that time. If he did both, it looks like we're just going to have to call Bryan Adams to find out.
Wow does seeing that bring back some memories. This was the year I got my first car and Reckless was one of my first cassettes. Fitting too; I had two wrecks and had two speeding tickets my first year of driving. I played the hell out of that thing.
can easily be considered one of the top ten records of the 80s. i just find it funny that it has its own thread going.
"Top 10s" are too individualistic to really hold any ground in a vote. No doubt, I'll have never heard of half of them and think the other half were trash and vice versa. Becomes a lame thread IMO.
Glad to hear others rate this album too. I just decided to blast it out the other week while I was house packing and found myself listening to the remaster. Top bonus tunes there which for why weren't on the album, including the title track. Just got me at the right time in the right mood, it's good to revisit old classic albums from yesteryear. Now I'm listening to something else.
It brings back a lot of memories for me too. We are only a few weeks apart in age. I got my first car that year too.
I love Bryan Adams songs...and about three years ago I went to a concert to see him without any band...just him and his guitar on stage....I did not like it, as none of the songs sounded great like I was used to them...they were boring renditions ofwhat I was used to. I go to a concert expecting electricity...not like I am in a coffee shop with background entertainment noise.....but I was so disappointed.....I still love all of his songs, though.
