God, you'd think someone would learn after the first two times, but no! He just had to go and get in trouble again. Last night my bro had to spend the night in jail because he recieved a D.U.I. and a possession misdemeanor when he hit a curb and popped his tire. Apparentally, he did everything wrong, and didn't ditch the weed or run from the car or anything in preparation for the cop. The reason that this is especially troublesome is that he's already been on probation twice, been to jail once, and is about to get hit with two charges at once. I think he deserves the D.U.I. because drinking and driving is too dangerous to be legal, but why can't the just cut people a break and let them smoke their weed? How is it hurting anyone else? Does anybody have any reasons why weed should be illegal? 'Cuz I really just can't think of any.

Why is weed illegal? Well according to the history channel its because back in the '20s or '30s Mexican's were smoking it and the government didn't like that. So after seeing them smoke it they made all crazy sorts of antidrug myths and fooled the people into making it illegal.
Not trying to bring anyone down but marijuana is illegal because its a drug, a drug that messes with your mind and the government has their health reasons why its illegal. But our bullshit government picks drugs that we can use and can't. either all drugs should be illegal, including alchohol, or everything should be legal.
You might benefit from a history lesson. It's my understanding it's pretty much as dxmer555 said... add a depression and paranoia that Mexican immigrants would take up what few jobs arise and the assumption that if you get rid of the maryjane you get rid of the Mexicans and you get the impetus for William Randolph Hearst directed media propaganda campaign calculated to scare people into an irrational fear of the drug.... and of the people popularly associated with it. The movie Reefer Madness was an offshoot of that mindset- intended to be taken my an impressionable, racist population as factual. All this was intended to soften resistance against creating a federal law against drugs, usurping states' rights and cultivate grassroots (pun intended) support for not only the demonization of pot but the deportation of the people that propagandists wanted regular folks to associate it with. I may have left a few holes to be filled in with some dedicated research and it's not impossible that I got some information wrong but that's my understanding of it. OP: I'm sorry your brother doesn't learn from his mistakes but that is separate from the crusade against laws that are based on lies.
Their are a lot of reasons why Cannabis is illegal, but none of them are good reasons. The point is, a lot of powerful people in America would lose money if this herb were legal.
But isn't being a hippie all about bitching and moaning for change but just sitting around and smoking weed instead of actually doing anything? Sigh... And Stinkfoot, I agree with you; I was just saying that because I think it would just be easier on everyone. I don't think he should have gotten in trouble for weed, but he's retarded and fully deserves the D.U.I.
