Brood X of the cicadas has arrived here in the North East!

Those suckers are loud! Sounds like a flying saucer from an old "B" movie. We have several wooded areas that are just filled with them. Up to 1.4 million per acre!
    Did I say they're load?

So, 11 million on my property, basically. I have slowed down on my mowing in some areas so I'm not killing off a bunch of bugs. I want whoever lives here 17 years from now to say, "Holy crap... That's a lot of bugs".

It's really odd how the sound an individual bug sounds like a cricket on speed, but when there are thousands in a tree all singing together they create a totally different sound. Then when there are thousands of trees... It sounds like a continuous drone of "phasers on full..." in surround sound.

None at all here, but I hear tell that they're everywhere in the surrounding area.

Thank god we never get them here, although according to the map there will be an emergence in SE Massachusetts in 2025
