Ok so I just ordered some Dr. Bronner from the official site today, I was tired of my good old soap that I found in my city (hopefully, because it's the only soap that can make my hair knot) but it doesnt smell anything so I said yay let's order some bronner 1. Should I dilute it at 1 part 12 part water? Does the smell and effectiveness stays if I dillute like that. well I think I don't have that much questions thats about it maybe some opinions what do you think about those two bronner soaps - Citrus liquid soap (havent seen lots of people talking about it, does it smell nice?) - Peppermint liquid soap, guess it's some good stuff too I didnt wanted to order lavender or the baby mild one guess I wouldnt like it as much as those but I read the Almond one is cool (Soaring eagle said it) I don't have too much problems with dandruff and flakes maybe just a bit but I dont care and I have a bottle of pure tea tree oil so no problem.
12 to 1 is good, thats what i do anyway. and the smell definitely stays. you can dilute the peppermint three times that much and it will still make you smell awesome.
cool thanks, just read that Citrus smell is new for Bronner so I'll update it here and say what I think about it but it'll surely be awesome too http://www.drbronner.com/soapmaking_overview.html here's a link explaining why the soap as a good later and good quality, etc. pretty interesting and nice to know it's biodegradable and natural.
The citrus smells really nice! I don't dilute so much as not dump a whole lot on my head. What I mean is I don't mix it beforehand as I've seen suggested but do so in the shower in hair or hands. My sons like peppermint very much but I only use it to brush teeth. I love lavender and almond, used the baby when my daughter was newborn but not since. If I'm not mistaken their site sells those tiny bottles so if you're unsure that may be a good way to go. I have all of them and they're easier to keep in the shower with smaller bottles. What scents people dig, that's just opinion.
just to let you know, your hair will knot no matter what kind of soap you are using (as long as it's residue-free).
it was the only residue free soap in my city haha, funny to say but its true that's why no one have dreads but me here, I'm the only one out of 30 000 people
LOL shorty... I am not far from you. I know what you mean. BUT in vermont there are plenty of dreadies... go figure LOLOL I guess maybe people are making their own stuff
just a question about bronners, since this is a thread about it... not trying to hijack the thread though, shorty.... when you dilute dr. bronners liquid shampoo, does it still lather? i'm one who likes a SHIT TON of lather before i feel like my hair is clean... and 12 parts water to 1 part soap does not sound like it would lather my hair. i've used the bar soap, and i put a lot in.... it works ok, but still feels kinda sticky/greasy. i didn't know if the liquid soap would make much of a difference... maybe i'll get a lil' bottle to try.
no problem with the highjack treehugger well I've heard that bronner is more watery then before but I found a couple video and it lather like hell anyway with a tiny little drop because its good quality soap and its not cut with cheaper oils in the process thats what I read on the official site lots of good informations on there and the philosophy of that bronner guy is pretty much very interesting I must say, I really like how he thought ... anyway 1 / 12 is kinda very diluted but I think it will still lather pretty good I'll test it out when I receive it, but at worst you can dilute is 1/8 I'm sure it will be OK ( a guy told me lavender is the best, but I try Citrus and Peppermint for now ) dont know if bronner leaves residue or stickyness or something too I heard of that but I'll see theres always solutions, if you order on the official site you need to buy 20$ or more products, so if you live in USA and can order it from drugstore.com it'll be cheaper
oh, there's bronner's in pretty much every store where i live. i have no problems finding it, which is nice. i'm wondering if the stickiness i feel left in my hair has something to do with the soap reacting to the mineral content in the well water here. it's pretty crazy high (the mineral content) and leaves nasties all over the shower, so i'm figuring it's doing the same in my hair but i'm NOT buying distilled water to wash my head, lol!!! but yeah, i'll be interested to hear what works for you. i couldn't stand lavendar either, lol... i hate that scent, it makes me nauseous. but i LOVE bronner's tea trea and peppermint bar soaps for face/body... so maybe i'll get a lil' bottle of the peppermint liquid soap and try it out. i need new shampoo in the next week or so anyways.
good for you you can find some good soap easily not like me eh ... took me 3 months to found a place where I can get it haha dont know about the water, bronner soap do real good in hard water as I learned from the official site / official videos but yea maybe it leaves something not sure but it works thats 100% sure maybe try the Citrus sent if you can find it? that stuff sounds awesome
yeah... i haven't seen it yet, and i think i'd rather smell like peppermint or tea tree than an orange or a lemon, haha! but that's just my personal preference... it just seems like more of a masculine scent to me. maybe my loverman would like it.... he loves his lemon shampoo... it smells good on him, but not so much on me, lol! and yes, i am lucky. california has awesomeness of organic stuff, great produce, and really good body care products. and you can find them pretty much everywhere.
I was thinking of just making my own soap with Essential Oils. I make bar soap now as I am wicked sensitive to all the additives in commercial soaps. I use pure vegie glycerin and essential oils. That should be fine for my locklings...right?
yes, but not too much oils because it will condition your dreads (somehow) it happened to me with using too much teatree oil
yeah, a few drops of EO should do ya. i used like, 10 drops in a whole big bottle of shampoo, and it smelled great, and was fine with my dreads. EOs are so potent, smell wise, that they really don't need to be used in heavy quantities. vermonthippiee, have you ever tried bronners' bar soap? it's really really gentle on skin... i use it for my face and all over. i know it sucks to have really sensitive skin!
No hun, I haven't. I have use the Dr Bonners on my hair(the liquid) and it has yet to bother my scalp. I will try it out =) thanks! eace: Sundari
do the different Bronner's types make a difference, for example will the tea tree varity leave my hair less oil than the peppermint ect?
