Me too! I am English so I like laughing to: 'Fawlty Towers' ,'The Goodies' ,'It Ain't 'Arf Hot Mum' etc.etc.

It's just that: 'Taxi' ,'Welcome Back Kotter','The Rowan & Martin Laugh-In', 'The Lucy Show','The Munsters','My Favourite Martian','I Dream of Jeannie' - I adore these American Shows!.
A lot of them are scheduled to come out on DVD : - this year or next.

    BANG ON.!
    Banana splits.
    Na, na, na,
    na, na , na, na,
    1 banana, 2 banana, 3 banana 4

That theme tune is stuck in my head now.

There are plenty of American shows I love, most of them arriving to me via the Paramount Comedy channel, a gift from the comedy gods. I love things like Friends, Scrubs, Ellen, Caroline in the City, Simpsons, Father of the Pride, Futurama, Happy Days, Wonder Years, Cheers, but yeah, some of the shows do seem a little forced at times (Married with Children hurts my head, as does South Park).

Being Welsh, I grew up with Brit shows like One Foot in the Grave, Keeping Up Apperances, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Last of the Summer Wine, Red Dwarf, and, of course, Monty Python, all of which I love dearly.

It often depends on the mood I'm in. If I want a fast-paced jokes flying at all angles sort of laugh, I'll watch an American show. If I want a more subtle and often sarcastic sort of laugh, I'll watch a British show. In the end, though, my own sense of humor (which is often sarcastic) turn me more towards Brit comedies. And Friends. Friends seems to be a mixture of both. I love Friends.

Just thought I'd point out that Monty Python was co-written by a Minnesota boy (Terry Gilliam). So is it British or American? Hmmm...

The last British comedy i realy laughed at was The leaugue of Gentleman.. I do think British comedy is overall better partly because its written by one or two people ..not vast writing teams.. Though i do apreciate comedys like Seinfeld..

Kings of queens and Grounded for life type of comedy is alright but not classic comedy as such..

Everybody loves Ramond would be the type of comedy that leaves me cold.. based on the comedy of ray ramano ?? i must have missed that one ..

Yes, League of Gentlemen was brilliant stuff.
My best ever has to be ''The Day Today'', with Chris Morris
who I think is a genius.

    Yes me too.
Hope it lives up to the TV series.

The freaky gypsy circus guy with the painted black face
was one of the best things I've seen.

    Oh yeh,
I forgot to add that point myself.
It's called ''canned laughter'', and it seems to be mandatory
for all American comedies to have it. It's really annoying
and patronising and used way, way too much on really
    lame jokes or scenarios.

just to add.. i heard on friends they edited the laugh to fit the joke.. writers thought there joke was funny 'big laugh' etc.. timing as well so the next joke was not missed with laughter still going on.

I just rememberd 'a bit of fry and laurie'

that is bloody funny.. i remembered because there laugh tracks were used on other comedy shows according to comedy connections not updated yet though.. thats a kind a compliment but realy sad thing to do .

I'm a big fan of British comedies. I think y'all forgot to mention:

Absolutely Fabulous (possibly one of the best sitcomedies ever!)
Coupling (this was good, but not enough shows were made)
    My Family (good sitcom)
Peter Sellers (how many movies was he in?)
Are You Being Served? (old british style comedy)
The Monty Python Movies (geniuses at work here)
Lenny Henry (OK, not a big fan)

I don't like these cause they're stupid, on the level of the worst American comedies
The Young Ones (nice try but vacuous, pointless, cruel, rarely funny)
Benny Hill (how many boob & butt jokes can you do in one show?)

American comedy has a dryer quality to it. American comics have a better sense of sarcasm and they've always been more openly political

oh but "The Office" and some movies like notting hill and bridget jones have put british comedy back on the map even though renee is from Texas

Forgeting Four Weddings and a funeral and coupling of course
I thought british humour was supposed to be 'dry' and full of sarcasm.. ?
I guess Ben elton alexi sayle et al have been wasting their energies over the last 25 years .

I like British comedies better. Absolutely Fabulous was faaabulous, it made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. :D My Family is good too, I used to watch it in Finland and the title was translated to Sohvaperunat (=Couch potatos) which I thought was pretty good. :p And Keeping Up Appearances is just brilliant. Haha, I'm laughing just thinking about it.

The Brits have Mr. Bean, the world's second best comedian. [IMG]
