If Trump ends up running for a third term, then so can Obama! As much as I'd like to see Newsom have a crack at being president, I think Obama would be the better choice. Why? Cause he's more electible. Voters will be able to contrast the Obama years vs Trump's two terms. I hope Trump doesn't run again. I can't see how given his age. But he might try to stay in office, especially if Vance doesn't poll well.

The 22nd amendment prohibits a third term presidency. Trump would probably have to run for vice president and then when the elected president mysteriously falls out of a White House window he would become president.
Possible Democratic candidates would be Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (he could reach across both parties; but he's Jewish), California Gov. Gavin Newsom (but he's polarizing), Harris could return ( but damn it, she's that other sex), or Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (but he's relatively unknown).
Mr. Obama would be an attractive and popular candidate for President. The question is: would Michelle be along for the ride?

You have certainly brightened up my dull afternoon. Back to the original question, mild mannered Obama is one of the largely unsung heroes of the US. His response that day when he forgot to salute the guard showed his true personality. A third term could certainly return some stability and with his proven history, he could quickly rebuild the bridges that his predecessor has demolished. Hopefully he would stop and think how much damage China has done to the west over recent decades. In my opinion, this is where the entire current problems lie.
If Trump is allowed to serve a Third Term, it won't involve an election. He promised "no more elections" in the recent past.

See, the head MAGA has deemed that the law and the Constitution doesn't apply to him so the 22nd Amendment doesn't apply to him either... except, if it doesn't apply to him, then it doesn't apply to Obama, either. - except Trump will shit gold bricks before he lets Obama run for the office again and will probably - and stupidly - invoke the 22nd Amendment. He's already said that he can run again but Obama can't and that tells you something. The SCOTUS is in his pocket and are the final arbitrators of the law in this country so if they say that, nope, the 22nd doesn't apply to him - but Obama cannot run - then that's the way it's gonna be...

First of all Obama made the comment to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev not Putin. Obama and Medvedev were meeting in Seoul to discuss an upcoming global nuclear security summit. The U.S. had plans for an anti-missile shield which Russia fears would upset the deterrent to the U.S. or NATO firing missiles into Russia without provocation as Russia could not then retaliate upsetting global stability. It would upset the mutual assured destruction doctrine which has been in place since the early 1960s. The U.S. maintained that the system was proposed to counter Iran, not Russia, and Obama was merely stating that discussion of the anti-missile shield had political implications in the upcoming U.S. and Russian elections and that the issue could not be resolved in an election year.
