The US soldier convicted of handing a trove of secret government documents to anti-secrecy website Wikileaks has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Pte First Class Bradley Manning, 25, was convicted in July of 20 charges against him, including espionage.
Last week, he apologised for hurting the US and for "the unexpected results" of his actions.
Prosecutors had asked for a 60-year sentence in order to send a message to future potential leakers.
Pte Manning will receive a credit against his sentence of about three and a half years, including time he has already served in jail and 112 days in recompense for the harsh conditions of his initial confinement.

It's total BS! After torchering the poor kid and everything. He shouldn't have been arrested to begin with, and since the charged Manning for "aiding the enemy," it seems safe for one to assume the government see's us citizens, as the enemy!

He isn't a kid. He is a grown man, who made a grown man decision, who now has to deal with the grown man consequences.

He was 19 years old when he was arrested; he's younger than I am, and he was just trying to help the people see the lies in the government. You can say wtvr you want but if you were in the military during wars, you've murdered civilians and let your sargent lie to the media about the casualities. You did that shit. I think it was more couragous of Manning though, to expose the lies to the people.

Right, he was a grown man. A grown man who violated his oath and violated the contract he signed with the United States government.

Yes, I was in the military. At 19 I was already a combat vet and had been around the world. Not once did I murder any civilians, nor did my "sargent" (whatever that is) lie to any media outlets. I did nothing of what you accuse. I suggest doing your homework on the military and military service before you start running your mouth. The statements you've made here indicate an impressive amount of ignorance on the subject.

I know someone who fought in Folusha (I've no idea how to spell it,) and he told me they would kill 20 citizens, find someone who would say it was 7 and the sargent would have them talk to media.

1 million innocent citizens dead in Iraq; now the government says any male they kill, is no longer a "casuality" but a "threat to the US," even if they've done nothing wrong!

The military is the governments strong arm for corrupt business practices worldwide.

Manning says he wants to start hormone therapy as soon as possible. I know they pay for that in federal prisons, but I don't know about military prisons. Manning says he's already applied for a presidential pardon. I don't know if Obama will grant it, but he may sign off on the sex change therapy.
