Stop drinking Anheuser-Busch everybody. Anheuser-Busch is threatening to boycott Missouri rice if Missouri allows Ventria Biosciences (http://www.ventria.com/) to grow genetically modified strains of rice which have been infused with synthetic human genes to be grown to combat dehydration. Although dehydration is rare in deveolped countries, it is very severe, and is much more common in the third world. Anheuser-Busch cites fears of cross pollination. The farming plan will use a "closed system of production" with a plant that pollinates itself and is separated geographically from any other crop. Genetically modified crops are regulated by the USDA, with state governments allowed to review safety procedures and suggest more stringent regulation of the companies before a permit is issued. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/04/13/tech/main687708.shtml This kind of naive ludditism hurts the development of life saving new medications, and its laughable to think of budweiser as a promoter of any kind of purity. It's hard to imagine budweiser getting anymore shitty anyway. If thats not enough of a reason for you, Budweiser also stole its name from a Czech beer, and then embargoed it until the company changed its name.
I boycott anheuser-busch for other reasons, because the beer tastes like shit. not for any type of hippie bullshit.
I tired to include the overall crappiness of anheuser busch in my thesis. They also make natural light. *shudders* And Those bacardi silver things which are pretty ok, but I'm not drinking that swill anyway. :$
I know.. I bought some yesterday right before I heard this crap. I guess I'll go ahead and drink it... if that doesn't make me too much of a hypocrite. I'm never gonna get any again though... Pro dehydration bastards!!! Heres all the crap that I hope you stop drinking, http://www.anheuser-busch.com/overview/abi.html At least you'd never have to drink natural light again.
I try to never drink Budweiser for the 'shitty taste' reason posted above. But, alas, not all places in the good ole USA have the wonderful selection available in ANY mini mart up here in the Seattle area. I was just in the back 40 of TX and found myself looking at three cases of beer - one Bud and all it's types, Coors and all it's types, and Miller and all it's types. Bought some kinda of Bud Bock - ewww. But later was lucky enough to find some Red Stripe. It's good to be back in the land of micro-brews and craft beers! ( I do think Red Hook had a marketing agreement with Bud a few years back - sorry, for the indirect support)
I am extremely opposed to GMO's and so I would never boycott anyone for opposing them. People can laugh at cross pollination all that they want, but it is something that is real. We should focus on the many other ways we could help developing countries that don't involved fucking up nature even more than we already have.
Hybrid crops are nothing more then advanced plant pathology. Plant pathology has saved billions of people from starvation this century, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_revolution There was a good thread about this in the UK section, I'll just post it so as not to repeat myself. http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80638 There are many ways to help the developing world, and all of them involve fucking with nature in one way or another. Like building roads... the major cause of starvation in the third world is a lack of infrastructure. When you build roads, you fuck with nature... it's arrogent and elitest when you're in the comfort of affluence to deny this to the poor people of the rest of the world. Hybrid crops are just plant pathology... its not fucking with nature anymore then mixing oranges, which gave us clementines. Are clementines an afront to god? These medications will save lives, and as I pointed out, in this scenario, cross pollination is impossible. We need to do everything we can to help the third world... not just some of it because it defies conventions.
ive been boycotting budweiser for years unintentionally... budweiser tastes like complete shit, how can you drink that shit? americans make shitty beer... it is the truth, wait, it is the gospel! Drink but dont drink this! it aint beer its piss! Rock the 40OZ! its the change that counts..
I don't drink but my dad works for AHB. If you had said just about anthing else then I would have gone along with you. (Maybe) I hate the idea that they are gonna do this because they are using the third world people as gueni pigs. (Bad speller) I think that's horrible. Why don't scientists try these things on themselves. I think it's hidious, sorry, just how I feel.
So true, like drinking bad water, it's so weak. If you think you like beer, sample some craft beers, yuuuuuuummmmmm, that's beer like it should be. Thick and tasty!
gueni pigs? You're post is ripe with inaccurcies. The drugs are being developed here, and are going to be approved by the FDA (that inludes human trials on Americans) http://www.fda.gov/cder/regulatory/applications/default.htm It will also be marketed here in the US in hospitals before its exported to the third world. The humanitarian benifits are just one example... it'll have many other uses including the potential to fight diarrhea. We're testing it out here, not in the third world.
