Shit's got me interested.. I need variety when working out and I couldn't handle a fight if all the women in Croatia depended on it..

Two birds with one stone, eh?

Anyone here tried boxing for a workout or career or whatever?

Nah but used to practice with my old neighbor.
Never one once in my life :( Just got punched around a lot, eventually it starts to really hurt lol, then again the guy had nearly 100lbs on me so it was pretty unblanaced

Awesome workout. It's practical use is decent since most people don't know how to fight but, run into someone who does and your advantage is gone. I'd go with either muay thai, kickboxing or jiu jitsu, all of which can counter a good boxer.

Yea, well I mean the first time a punch smashes your face it hurts, then you get mildly ok with the feeling, and then it just starts to make you never want to box again lol.
Fuck that, not for me. I'll just hope there is a gun or a sword around if I find myself challenged in the future

    Still an idiot.

Getting hit repeatedly is just not a key aspect of survival.

I used to consider Muay Thai but it's a bit too brutal for me. Kickboxing's pretty much the same and I'm not interested in the other stuff..

Plus boxers have great physiques, I need to lose my beer gut.

Not at all, I'm thinking about taking up some martial arts myself.

Just not boxing, especially not professionally.

Plus, it's not a very effective mode of street-fighting.

I take shotokan karate, and that is great for a workout, however boxing gets you into better shape.

Traditional kickboxing is a little less brutal. They don't really focus a lot on clinch work, knees(a little though) or elbows. Muay Thai is 8 strikes(fists, legs, knees and elbows). Hell, lode practices a variation that includes headbutts. Hardcore.

Well, I'm not professional athlete material in the first place.. I'm attracted to boxing recently, I plan to try it out. I rarely have patience with these things, I quit capoeira after 3 workouts but who knows.. It might be the one.

There is no better martial art for self defense than Crav Maga. It teaches how to fend off multiple unarmed and armed assailants. No other martial art teaches that.

Yeah, I hear Daniel Craig did that for the latest Bond flick.

Crav Maga is what I plan to learn if anything. My brother had to learn it in the army, so he could probably teach me, or I could just take a course when I get back to Israel.

Hell, go for it, it might just beat the gayness out of your head.
