Is it burkas or niqabs that people are worked up about? Burka wearers don't look like ninjas, they look like bee keepers--faces completely covered by netting. It's an Afghan thing, and I don't think westerners run into them very often in the streets of a major European or North American city. What's the difference between a hijab, niqab and burka? - CBBC Newsround
I don't mind it I don't see what the problem is. I think legislation against the wearing of these accessories is ridiculous. You should be able to wear what you like. Some say it represents male Islamic chauvinism and female repression. There may be some truth to this but it is just a vastly different culture. I think the prohibition of these items says a lot about the threat to Western sexual mores. I certainly don't feel unsafe around these Women or Muslims general, and I grew up in East London which has a large Muslim community.
This whole thing with Johnson criticizng Islamic dress really is dog eat dog. But in this instance the overweight blonde dog is really just seeking publicity.
I wouldn't say calling someone a letterbox is fair play, it's just a racist insult. A woman on Twitter recently posted that her mother had had letters shoved in her face by a bunch of yobs after Johnson's comments were published. I've walked down the street with my hood up and have never been accosted by the police for it. If you think they're pulling faces at you you're probably paranoid.
Its a discriminating insult. Technically not a racist insult. And at uren: Boris Johnson is in a diff position than you or me. He's wrong for putting it like that, plain and simple. The hoodie comparison seems flawed btw
.Verses . . Verses Maybe the point should apply to all (?) Often the message is lost in the delivery - ..... or by the orator (?) lessons to be learned all 'round (?)
Both niqab styles are the same where it comes to hiding the face.... so it should count for both of those. It doesn't need to include hijabs or normal wooly hats obviously. If a (majority of a) western country's populace finds such a thing unwanted in their society i would say ok. If a frustrated citizen feels like speaking out in a needlessly provoking and/or insulting way I would say ok. If Johnson does it in his current position I would say he is likely not the best person for the job.
Burkas are a shoplifter's wet dream. Baggy clothing that can hide anything, and a complementary face mask to go with it.
Boris should be allowed to say what he wants, and I would protect that right! However, what he says is not without consequence.
