I have about 6 that just blunted themselves.. i dont really dig them but i dont dislike them either lol. Not sure on methods, mine just kind of starting looping over on themselves at the ends and eventually just stayed like that!

There are a few methods for blunting tips. I kind of put the tip of my dread in the palm of my hand and rubbed it lightly around in circles until some knots started to form, and then I used a latch hook to pull it up to the body of the dread.

Just listen very closely when you're pulling your tips in. You'll be able to hear your hair break if you're doing it too roughly.

I did the same thing as KnottySpence. I've seen some crazy stuff happen when people rub their tips the wrong way. The best (and most frightening) was the kid's hair forming little balls and breaking off. His ends were SUPER damaged, so he must have been abusing them a bit much. Like KnottySpence said, just listen to your dreads. They will tell you when you are hurting them.

yeah the only thing is that my hair has been damaged from dying and straightening over the years, so my ends are pretty much ALL split ends :( as soon as I start rubbing they literally just crumble off! I guess I just have to leave 'em be!
I noticed a couple days ago that one have them has blunted naturally though, so maybe they'll do it on their own

Some of mine did, and others remained wispy. I liked the variation.

Have you thought of trimming the super damaged bits? I know it is a painful thought, but I found slightly trimming the super split ends made my dreads happier. Additionally, a little bit of olive oil on the damaged bits is great for moisturizing. Obviously too much is a bad thing, but with it being all natural, it's awesome. I used to put a bit in my baking soda mixture for my scalp. It helped with that crunchy feeling that I occasionally got with my dreads. Also, when they were feeling super dry, I would pour white vinegar over them and let it just dry. The vinegar smell evaporates and just leaves them feeling super soft. This is a bad idea if your dreads aren't properly locked. My super curly hair knotted up incredibly quickly.
