You don't mention what level of musician you are but the best thing for improving jamming is to jam with other people as much as you can. Try to find people who are better than you. You can learn from lessons and practice your butt off but nothing substitutes for just jamming with other people. And don't over-think it with all sorts of technical stuff. I find that it clouds my mind and gets in the way of my connection to the music and the people I'm playing with. Enjoy what you're doing in the moment and if you make a "mistake"...make it a few more times on purpose until you figure out how to make it not a mistake. That takes practice but being able to do that will cover your ass if you want to improvise well. Nobody besides you knows it was ever a mistake.

Good luck. I hope that helps. PM me anytime if you want to talk about this.

rhythm is primary . the structure can be and oft should be primitive .
i think it's cool to listen to African drumming to get a couple of the forms
... that low guitar string can drive the soul of it : it can just be a drum .

notewise , this is a simple structure that can be hard-driven . play it
    like a djembe .

    6th string : open E , and G at the 3rd fret
    5th String : E fretted at the 7th fret
    4th String : open D
