string cheese incident are great BG players. check out blueground undergrass, yonder mountain string band. those are my fav's as far as bluegrass goes
i usually just listen to the bluegrass on the tv, i don't really know names but i like the gourds a lot and iron horse (they do covers of popular artists) poor man's whiskey something interesting called redgrass, chinese instrumentalists playing bluegrass music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LALgWz0xc0"]YouTube- Chinese Bluegrass (REDGRASS): Red Chamberç´…åº, Jaybirds
King Wilkie is a pretty young band, real good. Jimmy Martin, the King of Bluegrass Check out the Grey Fox lineup. Every band there is guaranteed to kick ass.
yay! I just youtube'd all the suggestions on here and love them all! Thanks everybody! Ive been wanting to build on my bluegrass collection. Im starting a list of CD's I wanna buy cuz everytime I go to the record store I freeze up and forget! These bands will be on the list. Greendancin bear if you like the jam band bluegrassy bands you might like hot buttered rum and railroad earth if you havnt already heard of them. =]
hot buttered rum string band and .357 string band both play kind've a weird style of bluegrass. railroad earth is also an amazing band but they aren't really straight up bluegrass, more of a folk band i guess. i'm not sure what genre i'd categorize them as but when i used to use itunes sometimes they're shows would show up with a bluegrass label for genre.
I was also going to recomend railroad earth, although like stated they arnt a traditional bluegrass band but there tunes are very enjoyable
yeah Im not a real railroad earth fan...I like some of their stuff but I dont own any of their CD's. I loooove hot buttered rum though.. Mostly cuz theyre sooo much fun live and the last show I went too the mandolin player gave me a free t shirt and CD. =] I think bands like HBR and RE are more neo-bluegrass or jam band bluegrass maybe? I dunno.
yeh hot buttered rum and cornmeal are definitely jamgrass. i'm still not 100% as to what i would refer to railroad earth as. they're like a folky jamband with very strong bluegrass tendencies. i just cant get myself to call them a bluegrass band.
Old school -love is just a four letter word- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY3...w=folk music&gclid=CLOmx5CZ9qACFQYoawodFiQ6uw
My favorite bluegrass band is "Cabinet". They are a young bluegrass jamband from pennsylvania. Here is a link to some live shows: http://www.archive.org/details/Cabinet
It seems all the bluegrass we listen to is SCI. That is hubby's addiction. HUGE addiction. I'll ask if he has any other suggestions cuz bluegrass isn't really my thang. I like listening to it though, I just dont' often seek it out.
Double post: Here are his suggestions. Leftover Salmon (Sorta - definitely some bluegrass background) Bluegrass Revival (may have "Clearwater" at the beginning of the name....can't remember) Hot Buttered Rum Blueground Undergrass Tony Furtado Umphrey's McGee Yonder Mountain String Band.
I loooove it all thanks sooo much! I like the term jamgrass. I like old school bluegrass but jamgrass is sooo much fun to hoop too!
