You see, I hennaed my hair well over a year ago now and it looks as if most if not all of the henna colour is gone. I've done many things to strip the henna from my hair as well, including slathering yogurt over my head (and realizing it WASN'T a sugar free kind, heh) and using mineral oil. The henna should be pretty damn stripped by now, I think, considering how much I've tried to remove it. I wasn't aware how permanent henna was and when I got bored with it it couldn't just be dyed over. I realized, over much time, that red just doesn't suit me. Anyways, I rambled about that...

I'm naturally a dark blonde girl and as a little girl I was always towheaded and I really want to go back to being in the blonde range.. possibly a pretty light colour. Of course, bleaching is my option here. I've had success with Sun-In before and I have a box of highlighting stuff here somewhere. What should I use? Do you think it'll work? Do you think this is a good idea? Any tips from people who have experience with hair colour? I don't have much experience at all so I thought I'd try to get some advice. Thanks, girls (and guys?)

    :D

I think you should streak some blonde highlights in first to see what you think to the colour, and if you like it, do your whole head! Sun-in turns your hair yellow in my experience, not nice...

Why, thanks for your input, sweetie!!

    :)

I was thinking of doing just the streaks but
the kit that I have is solely for highlights so
if it turns out that I want to do my whole head
in that colour then I don't know where I'll find
    something to match.
    Different products
    equals
    different bleach intensities, I think.

In the past, I used Sun-In just
to lighten up my already blondeish hair
and it did what bleaching was supposed to do.

But, next time, I might just invest
    in some regular hair-dye because
maybe it's less harsh on hair or something.
Trust me, I HAVE heard lots of bad things about Sun-In.

I just went for it and
now I look just as blonde as
I've always looked in the past!
    Maybe even a bit blonder!
    No more red at all..
    I'm very, very happy.
Hell, I could even go lighter now that I know that my head wont fall off! ;)

Cool what'd you end up doing? And got any pictures?

I went through a similar experience where I just could not get old semi-permanent hair color (red also..hmm) to fade from my naturally blonde hair. So I ended up bleaching, and I have to say it was such a relief just being over and done with it. And I can honestly say that the bleach didn't noticeably damage my hair a bit, other than causing temporary dryness. I think it was because a) my hair was already blonde underneath, so I was really just stripping the old dye out, and b) my hair was in good condition to start with. Anyway, didn't mean to get into such details but my point was, biting the bullet and bleaching was definitely worth it.

Yeah, I'm definately happy to be in the blonde range again.
I just used some regular hair dye that was supposed to
just dye your hair a mediumish blonde colour..
    it was Garnier Fructis brand.
I'll take pix as soon as I get batteries or a new camera..
    Don't know when that'll be.
I was so afraid it wouldn't work
and I'd be stuck with two-toned hair
    or something horribly unnatural.
But, this is pretty much my natural colour..
    albiet maybe a bit lighter..
    ;)
I was getting so incredibly tired
of the reddishness that was still lingering
after more than a year of henna.

    Like you mentioned,
I don't feel much damage on my hair either.
    I mean, temporary dryness, right..
but that's no issue for me.
Just a few days of conditioner only washes and I'll be fine.
Plus, it feels a lot softer.

Jeez, I always find myself rambling about nothing in particular!
    All apologies.

I never knew henna's could be permanent! Thank god because I'm going white and don't want to put all those chemicals in my hair

Well I have had many colors in my hair, even crazy. Right now I have purple in my hair, What I would suggest is you try the highlight first to see if you like it, and then if you do, go full on bleach, to strip it, then dye it the blonde you want. Just dont go blue. lol, I found out the hard way that blue is the hardest color to get out of your hair, but easy to cover up. so good luck!
