David Bowie releases his new album today, the same day as his 69th birthday. Check out the very bizarre video for the self-titled single off the new album. It's good to see an aging musician still putting out quality (and weird and original) material instead of selling out and pandering to the mainstream as most big name artists do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kszLwBaC4Sw
His voice though, sounds more like he is just talking rather than singing, because hes too old to hold his breath for very long Dont mind all the other elements, its rather hypnotic But this thing you get with many older artists, where their range gets limited to 1/2 an octave, its annoying, and gets repetitive, I bet the rest of the album sounds the same, not that anyone listens to whole albums anymore
Well, if you actually listened to the entire song, you would hear that he doesn't "sing" that way throughout the entire song. And no, the rest of the album does not sound the same. And yes, people do listen to full albums. I do, and so do most true music lovers.
Not bad, my real first introduction to David Bowie was as a kid back in 1983 with hit number 1 hit song Let's Dance https://youtu.be/N4d7Wp9kKjA Hotwater
i liked his celtic stuff. was that bowie? i don't remember. i'm less impressed by loud and epic, then be strange and less often explored. was he the guy in the stones? i don't remember the big names like that because that's not what's important to me. i mean i remember some of the names but not always who did what. rick wakeman and klaus shultze are more like the kinds of names i remember from that era and marty balin and grace slick and donovan, and ian anderson.
I feel like being argumentative for the sake of it. One is not a true music lover unless they listen to full albums? With the exception of a handful of albums, every album has a few shit songs. So one has to endure the shit songs to be a true music lover Ive always disliked pretentiousness when it comes to music, there are only seven harmonic ways air vibrates towards the inner ear. In some shape or form, who doesnt like music
To me it seemed he was already pandering to the mainstream in the 70's, even if he was innovative somehow (if you can grasp the upcoming trends you can do both of course). But as may be clear already I never digged his style. Some hit songs were ok, I can see why they were hits. I enjoyed a Ziggy Stardust album a couple of times
He said MOST true music lovers So no, one does not have to endure the shit songs to be regarded as a true music lover by PR, if one would really care a lot about that.
Who cares? There is a huge difference between most of what is mainstream now and some of what was mainstream then. To compare mainstream music of today to the mainstream music of the 60 and 70s is stupid.
I'm not sure how huge that difference is when we're talking about certain formulas in pop music. Formulas he made use of. I don't care but you were the one who started talking about pandering to the mainstream, on which I had a thought about regarding Bowie.
Rest In Peace DB January 10, 2016: Singer David Bowie has died at the age of 69 from cancer. Looking back at that video now, becuase I thought he was older, was only reminded today he was 69...you can kind of see it. I feel like a dick now, said he couldnt sing, then a couple days later he kicks the bucket
