Hey, i'm planning on getting dreads hopefully after around new year time and im wondering if theres anything i can do in advance that will help my hair dread easier, I was reading the FAQ that was posted and i heard that braiding the hair is a rarely-used method of dreading, but what if i braided my hair like 2 months before i dread it and then back-combed it, would it be easier to backcomb? or just be more messy? Another thing i read was that shampoo just makes your hair greasier after like 24hrs, so im thinking of not using shampoo and letting my hair get used to being non-greasy for a while with just water, anything else that can help in the long run?
Yes I will take the braids out, I'm just hoping it'll make my hair a bit more curlier so it'll lock easier
braiding it before backcombing won't really do a lot besides give it some temporary texture. backcombing generally falls out (at least partially if not most of it) anyways, so it's no big deal. just smoke a blunt and forget you're 'trying' to grow dreads. as far as washing goes, just try to acclimate your hair to less frequent washings. get a cup and put some baking soda and water in it and pour it over your head and work it into your scalp. that's all you really need to do.
I bet the roots of the braids start to lock up before you brush them out. I would just quit brushing your hair now, and not use any nasty shampoo. Then you will well on your way to dreads....you don't "get dreads". No matter what method you use, you start out with messy tangled hair, then it becomes dreadlocks over time...never is there a point they are created in a short time.
Okey well im planning on getting my hair used to water and occasional baking soda mix from now on as for the braids i dont really mind becouse i'll wait as long as it takes for my hair to dread anyway aslong as there a people here to guide me, thanks for the replies
