Recently I asked my homeschooled daughter to write a poem about birds, and she rolled her eyes and said "Why don't you write a poem ?" So I did !!!!!!

    Birds

    Everyday we watch the birds
    flying here and there,
Some we see most every day,
    others are quite rare.
They come and land on rocks and stumps
    just outside our door.
Hunting there for seeds and bread,
    a constant search for more.

They dart about on colorful wings,
    soaring with the breeze,
And sing their songs so loud and sweet
    high up in the trees.
Most likely there are baby chicks
    in their nest and waiting,
With their mouths stretched open wide,
    with loud anticipating.

There's a world of wings and feathers,
so just look up to see,
A wealth of beauty there to witness,
so exciting, so natural, so free.
    The theatre of lifes creation,
a show so real and wild.
    Theres action, drama, and adventure,
for every man, and woman, and child.

Why do birds sing first thing in the morning? It's not the usual mating calls and whatnot...like roosters crow at the sun, or wolves howl at the moon (do they really do that?)

I read somewhere that everything an animal of-little-brain does that isn't eating is related to sex. Every call, every song is a communication about the immediate need for a mate, and to rapidly reproduce. Every fancy dance and prance is just a showy enticement to attract others of like kind to get on with it and copulate, and multiply, and populate the earth.

I love to feed birds, and watch them upclose and personal, they liven up any neighborhood. Thanks for the feedback. I haven't written any poetry for a long time, forgot all about it. May be inspired to try some more.
