At least there'll be no hostage taking in an attempt to get him released.

The more I think about it, the more I think he was taken alive but they've claimed to have shot him.

 

Possibly that might be of some comfort to anyone killed in reprisal attacks.

But the whole thing seems to be getting stranger... I was under the impression - perhaps wrongly - that the whole operation was filmed...in fact one newspaper said that Obama watched the whole thing in real time, via a camera mounted on the helmet of one of those involved.

Radio 4 news tonight says they've back-tracked on that, and now they only saw the arrival of the teams but not the killings.

You start to wonder whether they did film the whole thing, but thought on reflection that releasing a video of an unarmed woman being gunned down and an old unarmed guy with hands up saying: "Its a fair cop - I surrender just before he's shot in cold blood might not be the brightest of PR moves.

I guess there's nothing they could have done without attracting something like that. Kill him and make a martyr, capture him and make a dozen hostage situations, leave him and... :/

 

The man they shot managed to kill 3,000 innocents who were armed with nothing but thoughts of family, and where they were going to spend the holidays. So, roll your eyes at that.

I dunno... given that many believed him to have died years ago anyway, maybe they could have contrived to infiltrate and just poison him or something.

I don't think he was rolling his eyes at that, he was rolling his eyes at the fact that they had the head of a terrorist organisation unarmed and at their mercy and they shot him rather than taking him to some cell for a cookie and a chat about the secrets behind said organisation.

Yeah, that would have been a good idea. Only problem I can see is that they wouldn't be able to take over his hideout like they have now and extract whatever information they can find from it.

I heard they did send an operative in at one point for a poisoning attempt. She was dyslexic though, and got her anthrax mixed up with her tampax.

If you're talking about 9/11...no he didn't. The people who killed them killed themselves at the same time.

He may or may not have bankrolled the operation, but if bankrolling covert operations in foreign countries resulting in deaths of civilians merits automatic execution without trial, then all living US presidents, past and present, ought to be looking over their shoulders right now.

On the question of 3000 innocents [and not trying to belittle or anything, but...] how would you feel if several of them were paedophiles, looking forward to an evening of kiddie-porn ? Some may have been wife-beaters, racists, homophobes. Some just all-round assholes.

Sorry to be cynical, but dying inadvertantly in something like 9/11 doesn't automatically make someone a good, innocent person if they actually weren't.
