I should have thought of this one earlier: Tricycle is hosting the Big Sit, a yearly 90 day meditation challenge. What does it entail? Every day, try to meditate for 15-20 minutes. Read koans, literature on Zen and enrich your practice. Would anyone be interested? It already started (3 weeks ago), but we can begin now, or at any point. Here is a list of details, and this page will be regularly updated for anyone who wishes to participate. The Big Sit Tricycle Introduction The Value of a Vow Genjokoan
(twilight zone music in background) ok this is cool and odd! I was just thinking earlier today I really need to meditate more! yikes! It is already 10:11pm here hmmm and we are finishing the house so my room doesn't look or feel altar-y but maybe that can be my first mindfullness-cleaning up the disaster....I lost my mother and everything has been going badly so I REALLY need this!!! THANK YOU!!! peace, Delfynasa
Is anyone else sitting? Mine meditations are still pretty distracted but I am still doing it anyway and having some trouble getting much from the Genjokoan yet...but that is another thing to keep trying on. peace Delfynasa
my meditations are still pretty sucky and the Zen stuff I am reading still is occaisionally more obscure than I get but hey I am still here and trying! peace, Delfynasa
sigh...I am not doing well at this...I have meditated every day but two(I was sick), read from the Genjokoan and another Buddhist book and still my meditations are distracted and poor and the book makes me feel well, bad. Like I don't get some of it and then the things that don't 'click' with me I feel bad like how dare I disagree with Buddha?! I feel like I am trying to make myself over into something else. Is this normal? ok? peace sigh Delfynasa
Unfortunately Tricycle is a leader in POP Buddhism. It exists primarily to make money not convey the way. Meditation is a good way to still one's mind, but after you learn to do that there is no need to continue it. It is just the books writers and professional priests and teachers that lead you to believe you need to do it all the time, especially the institutional Zen folk. Once you know how to keep your mind still and not obey all the chatter that it produces, it is time to practice that all the time. Retreats and more book learning do not do anything to for that. It is a big scam, and their are many snake oil salesmen ( teachers ) just waiting to lie their way into your life. Be careful!
