I haven't smoked weed in the past few days, and I've realized my dreams are so much more intense and vivid now, they seem so real. Not saying its a good thing though, my dreams are usually pretty messed up and demented :D but it's kind of cool, because usually when i smoke daily i never have any/remember any dreams at all.

    Anyone else realize this?

I don't find weed has really made a difference with my dreaming..
I think i only have horrible dreams when i'm stressed out and whatnot.

When i smoke i do sleep better and i get on a better sleeping schedule...
The only thing really is when i don't smoke i just sleep a lot less..

Weed helps me sleep so much better too, the only bad thing about it is that when i wake up in the morning i'm extra tired and its that much harder getting out of bed. I get a lot more sleep with it, but it feels like a lot less.

And i usually have a hard time remember my dreams too, i'm unsure if that's mainly because of the weed though. But these past few days I've been having crazy dreams every night.

Yea, which i have trouble remembering my dreams also..

Sometimes if they are really really bad and make a difference like i have woke up crying and in cold sweats cause of some dreams.. those i can usually remember.. but other than that i have trouble remembering dreams.

When I take breaks, I end up dreaming like a mofo.
I've definitely heard others say the same. It's the best part of taking a break.

terrence mckenna talks about it; he theorizes that when you smoke pot it wakes your dream self before it should be awake, and rather than waiting to sleep to dream, you sort of day dream. therefore when you go to sleep your dream self is just as exhausted as your waking self, so you both take a break from contemplating and your sleep is basically filled with nothing. i thought that was an interesting theory

Sometimes, unless you dream like me :D

In the past few days, I've had extremely vivid realistic dreams of watching planes crash down, being in planes that crash down, watching amusement park rides filled with people explode, dead bodies with all the skin peeled off, plenty of cannibalism, etc...

    my dreams are messed... lol

That is pretty interesting, i think i read somewhere a long time ago too that weed effects your dreams in some way, i don't fully remember how/why though, it was a more scientific theory.

Supposedly weed stops you from dreaming. It inhibits REM - as does alcohol and a number of other drugs.. This is of course only for a certain amount of time. Then you bounce back and your brain goes into REM overdrive to try catch up on the energy you haven't regained due to lack of REM.
Thing is though, scientists have discovered that you also dream in non REM sleep, so I'm not too sure on the details of the "dream tolerance" with weed.. but I do know that I never dream as soon as I go to sleep after a spliff. I need to wake up and then get back to sleep, which I always do because I set alarms to wake me up a few hours before I actually want to wake up.
I love dreaming, and am lucid most nights(mornings) :)

Another interesting thing is that dreams during REM tend to be negative or "nightmarish", but in non REM they're happier.

Edit: ☉rtus ♉, badass sig pic, I'm gonna mooch that idea haha ;)

I don't know if this has been pointed out already, but marijuana has been proven to limit the amount of time we spend in R.E.M. sleep, the part of sleep that induces dreaming. When we smoke weed and go to sleep whilst high, we go straight into deep sleep and skip over R.E.M. sleep, which leads to a less restful sleep at night.

Makes sense, i remember reading about this now a long time ago. So if you smoke weed for a really long time, then suddenly stop you'll have way more intense dreams due to REM trying to catch up?

    why thank you :D

Hey MeatyMushroom, are you an avid weed smoker?? I've tried to become a better lucid dreamer over the years; keeping a dream journal, doing reality checks, taking melatonin. But I've only lucid dreamed 4-5 times in my life, I'm wondering if its because I smoke weed throughout the day? I try not to smoke before I go to bed for this reason. But I don't know...I love lucid dreaming but I love my mary jane too!!

I don't smoke as much as I used to, probably around 3 or 4g a week but sometimes I don't smoke any.
But you gotta just blag yourself to get lucid, just think to yourself whilst you're dozing off "I'm lucid dreaming tonight", and give yourself something to do whilst you're lucid - it keeps your mind off thinking about actually being lucid.
I also try a bit of basic meditation before I go to sleep. I lie down and take deep breaths that fill my "stomach", then relax my chest and exhale naturally, should take around 8 - 12 seconds for an exhale.
But yeah, just save your bedtime spliff for a morning treat instead and keep trying. You spend so much of your life asleep, you may as well have a bit of fun whilst you're doing it :p

I have the feeling we don't dream more or very different without weed, we just don't remember them as much when you're on weed. I also notice I remember more dreams when I smoke less or nothing for a few days for sure. I'm not so sure I've dreamed more though. I also rarely remember dreams longer than the first minutes after awakening. I've always wanted to experience lucid dreaming, but perhaps I do so every night.. since I don't remember shit when I wake up anyway :p

That is one way to look at it. The intensity and recognition of dreams reflects the level of general concern or focus you have. In plain words pot makes you mellow. Dreaming is a kind of problem solving.
