When you take your journey, what album do you take with you? my vessel of mind travel is "SMiLE" a brian Wilson album once abandoned but finally released last year i shelved sgt Pepper for SMiLE.
the best album to take with you is hands down The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It is beautiful in every aspect of music.
that is a good one, I always got visuals of the "GNome" from the song about the gnome..........was his name Grimbel Grumbel or something?
It's a toss-up between "The Best Of The Doors" and "Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd". They are both pure psychedelia from beginning to end.
The problem with Pink Floyd is that some members explicitly disavowed the use of drugs, especially with what happened to Syd. Jefferson Airplane by far has the most trippy sound -- Grace Slick is absolutely lysergic in sound and form. I have their best hits, which is fine by me.
That doesn't mean they can't make some trippy ass music though. The BEST song for tripping that pink floyd made is "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun", and that song could hold up with any song by any other artist in the psychedelic sense.
why is that a problem?? thats their opinion and they have a right to it...... does it make it particularly bad that some people have something against the use of drugs?? they have a reason, as do alot of people. doesnt mean there is a problem.
What's funny is that neither of those compilations features "pure psychedelia." The Doors' later work wasn't so psychedelic, and a lot of the Floyd's work wasn't psychedelic. Eh, not that it matters... Anyway, although The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is my favorite psychedelic album, I'd probably rather trip to Gong's You. I love that album. :H
A tough call, heres a few of my faves, in no particular order Axis Bold as Love - jimi Crown Of Creation - Airplane Revolver - beatles Morrison Hotel - Doors Satanic Majesties Request - Stones Apostrophe - FZ Disreali Gears - cream
"The problem with Pink Floyd is that some members explicitly disavowed the use of drugs, especially with what happened to Syd." HA! yeah, just like "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" or "Purple Haze" are not actually about LSD
Yes but even if they disavowed the use of drugs... all members smoked joint even Waters (who always liked better wine and cocaine) but Wright and Gilmour take a few trip of LSD (not a lot not like syd) and Gilmour was smokin a lot marijuana... So it's not right to tell that they don't tried drugs ...even if they disavowed it... They were just less into it if we compare to Syd of the other rock bands of that time...
Some of my favs are the Mothers of Inventions Freak out and We're only in it for the money and some newer stuff: Liquid Sound Company - Exploring the psychedelic.
my top-10: 1. Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 2. The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators 3. The Incredible String Band - The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter 4. Music Emporium - Music Emporium 5. The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers 6. Country Joe & the Fish - Electric Music for the Mind and Body 7. The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - Vol.3: A Child's Guide to Good and Evil 8. The Grateful Dead - Anthem of the Sun 9. C.A.
