Missoula, Montana during Hemp Fest - http://www.missoulahempfest.com/ Tonasket, Washington during Barter Fair - http://www.barterfair.org/ Port Townsend, Washington The Olympic Ranges Western Washington, in the rainforests, beautiful, but very wet Eugene, Oregon area during Oregon Country Fair - http://www.oregoncountryfair.org/ Arcata California in Humboldt County, in the red woods, so worth experiencing The whole California Coast is awesome, I love Big Sur, California and Half Moon Bay Hostel at Point Montara just a half hour south of San Fran on Calif. highway 1.
I would definatly check out Arcata, Humbolt co. is nice. Orgen is beautiful, and so is Idaho, Check out the hot springs. Co. is nice, and guess what its where Nationals are.
Of you're on I-80, one of my favorite side trips is to bail off the freeway onto WY hwy 130, which runs from Laramie over Medicine Bow Mt, smoke a bowl or two on top of the mountain, then head down to Saratoga and have a soak at the Hobo Hot springs. Speaking of cool places out west, and hot springs, I heard a rumor USFS dynamited Cougar Hot Springs??? Can someone confirm or deny? Sure would suck if it's true.
I like going to events like these because you meet the people from the areas who know the secret cool places to go, which are always the best... California - http://www.earthdance.org/sf/ Seattle Washington - http://www.hempfest.org/ Northwest Folklife Festival: May 26 – 29 in Seattle, WA.
check out the underground caves and ruins in hopi and navaho. of course the grand canyon while u r there. in cali i would see greyhound rock, it is near santa cruz, which is also a must-see town. of course goldengate park in san fran. but mostly, DO NOT MISS the beautiful colorado rockies around the beginning of july! its beautiful and i hear there's going to be a big shin-dig of beautiful souls there.
I coulda swore I already posted Terwilliger Hot springs....also known as cougar hot springs...but ita aint here...hmmmmmmmmm
When we went out west for the national in CA, our fav spots were Arches Nat Park in Moab, Utah, and the Redwoods. There is also a kool little hot spring in Utah called Mystic Hot Springs. I'm pretty sure they have a web site. Very kool folks who run the place. And, of course, Yellowstone.
Get a book entitled "Hot springs of the Pacific NW" Get a NW Forest Pass. Having it means you can camp pretty damn near anywhere your not inthe way in a NF. Places that I love: Bagby Hot Springs- Hike past the springs into the Bull of the Woods Wilderness Umpqua Hot Springs- on the way to Crater Lake National Park- best views in Oregon... stop at the park headquarters and ask for some good hikes. In the Olympics- Elwha Hot Springs- the hike past these springs is beautiful too. Bogachil campground on hiway 101 is nice at all cost avoid the NP campgrounds on the olmpic seashores! Go inland and go to the beach during the day. if you have time the San Jauns are stunningly beautiful. If you are upin trout lake Sleeping Beauty is a beutiful hike The Columbia River Gorge, take HWY 30 and look for Horsetail falls. any of this help? oh yes opal creek wilderness area in the Mt Hood NF is great.
In Cali Remington Hot springs rock. Yosemite, and the hidden hot springs outside of the park! Giant trees! Idaho is Americas best kept secret we had a blast there. Definantly if you get a chance go to Yellowstone it is amazing and beautiful and full of animals and one of a kind natural features! Yes go to Yellowstone! Visit the Hopi and Navajo ruins Mesa Verde is nice. Go to Sedona and visit the energy vortexes, then slip over to check out the Grand Canyon! Sout Dakota was great and Montana is interesting to say the least. The west is so big and there are so many cool things enjoy!
If you plan on visting the Grand Canyon avoid the giant parking lot of the south rim; overcrowded, coraled, and traffic jams. Instead head for the north rim for more seclusion and better views. It's a bit of a drive but well worth it. Also if your looking to do any camping in AZ, stay north of the Mogollon Rim and east of I-17. West of 17 is tourist trap. Good luck and just follow your heart.
Yeah, after the CA Gathering we spent a month hot spring hopping up north of Crouch on the Middle Fork of the Payette river. Seems like most us agree most of the best places to visit out west are hot springs...Let's add Granite Creek Falls hot spring to the list. Not the paid campground, of course, but upstream from there by the waterfall. We had a little after the Gathering gathering there in '94.
I live in Portland, but you totally need to check out Oregon country fair, you can find thier website by looking on google. As well you should check out Seattles Pike street market, there are plenty of hostel's in Seattle to stay at. I think that there is a hempfest up there also....
Go past Columbine,Co. to FS550 East. Take that road to FS500 and make a right. Go about 2 miles to FS520 and go about 2 more miles.Welcome Home...
