Who do think are the best male singers? Simple question...I'll go first Jeff Buckley Layne Staley Al Green Stephen Simmonds Jim Morrison
Other people may not consider these the best, or even aesthetically pleasing, but they're the best to me! In no particular order: Marvin Gaye Paul McCartney Rob Thomas Prince Steven Tyler Tom Waits
Maynard James Keenen, without a doubt he's got one of the best voices I've ever heard. For those who don't know he's the lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle.
For Pure Vocal Ability..Bruce Dickinson(Iron Maiden) and...that dude from AudioSlave cant think of his name at the moment though...
YES! maynard!!!! he is truly truly truly the most AMAZING singer. I dont really dig on tool too too too much. some songs are VERY beautiful veryyyy spiritual to me, but i generally think they are a buzzkill of a band. but the singer is egrubiuefvieugn!!!! his voice is SO beautiful. he has SUCH range, such voice control. I think maynard takes the cake. other then maynard though... i absolutely love jim morrison (the doors in generaly). his voice is so unique, but not offensive, doesn't grip you or stand out, like an earsoar. it's beautiful and deep and round and yatta yatta.
I love to listen to Jakob Dylan, too...also, don't laugh, but Johnny Rzenick from the Goo Goo Dolls...even if the song sucks ass, I love to hear him... *sigh
Wow did I really forget that? Okay I also love Bob Dylan and Bill Withers, and Chris Robinson, and John Lennon yah! Oh and of course Robert Plant(duh!)
JOHN LENNON! Geez, I'm awful. How could I put Paul and not John? And Charlie Feathers! Names just keep coming to mind. lol
Otis Redding Sam Cooke Marvin Gaye Ben E. King James Brown Roky Erickson Don Von Vliet (Captain Beefheart) The Byrds The Beach Boys
I think these questions are hard because there are so many unique voices that it is hard to choose. So I generally go by someone with a good voice as well as who I like to listen to.
Gregg Allman Jim Morrison Chris Cornell (Yuuuummmm! ) Stevie Ray Vaughan Jerry Garcia Al Greene Jimmy Cliff Bob Marley Sam (Moore) AND Dave (Prater) I'm sure there's more but my minds a blank for now....
These are my favorites (in no particular order): Damo Suzuki (Can) Malcolm Mooney (Can) Jimi Hendrix David Byrne (The Talking Heads) Lou Reed (The Velvet Underground) Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) Marvin Gaye James Brown David Bowie Greg Lake (King Crimson, ELP) John Wetton (King Crimson) Brian Eno Louis Armstrong Sting (The Police) Tom Verlaine (Television) Bono (U2) The Beatles (all four members) Peter Gabriel (Genesis) Maynard James Keenan (Tool) Van Morrison I think that's about it.
Scott Weiland (STP, Velvet Revolver) has an amazing range and can sing in a lot of styles. My personal favorite is Rivers Cuomo but I wouldn't say he is the most talented male singer or anything. I just like the sound of his voice. The singer for Shinedown is pretty amazing too.
