It's the last day of August, Summer's winding down, and we've all probably seen our fair share of bands and festivals over the last few months. So what has been your favourite and why? I've got to say 3 Daft Monkeys at Beautiful Days myself. Course Levellers will always be the greatest festival band for me, but I've seen them many many times, and for this festival, it was the 3 Daft Monkeys who really stood out. When I first saw them there in 2003 about 12 people seemed to be dancing. This year, though, the Big Top was packed out and the whole crowd was on their feet and singing along. When the next band came up, most of them left. Seems they've been stirring quite a few people over the last few years, and I'm not surprised. Really catchy stuff....
I saw New Model Army in Preston at the beginning of the summer that was probably the best gig. It was the first time I'd seen them live and they were pretty awesome. The venue was packed and everyone dancing, great atmosphere. My favourate band from Beautiful Days was the Bleeding Hearts. The only problem I have with them is that they never play for long enough!!! Still they sounded fantastic as always! For some reason I didn't think the Levellers were that great this year. There seemed to be something missing though I'm not sure what!
I saw Bleeding Heart's supporting the Levellers in 2001, they were pretty good. I reckon the Levs were as good as ever this year. My only disappointment was the masked ball. I was hoping to see some great big party, but it was just the Levellers, with masks! Still, I can't complain, I'd have been stuck up a tower during it anyway. And if I can't have fun, no one should be allowed to! What this year has really missed for me, though, is Glasto. Summer's nearly ended and it still doesn't feel like it's started because I haven't had Glasto to kick it off. Can't wait till next year though, only 10 months to go!
I'm gonna have to say Gogol Bordello at Reading Festival. They have so much energy and it was just awesome. But Less Than Jake were also amazing and made som huge mosh pits - great fun!!
What was Reading like this year? I've only been once, always been a Glasto guy myself. Welcome to the UK Forum by the way, always good to see a new face round here Do you run Just Add Weed? Why not head over to the Karma Kafe and introduce yourself.
