    Naked Lunch by William Burroughs.
This book is a bit of a challenging read, I suppose. I struggled with it on my first run through it. Still very good and if you think you can no-longer be shocked by words, tell me that after reading it.

The Great Shark Hunt by Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter S. Thompson, not going to waste time talking about it. Half of you people who visit this thread should've already read it any way.

Confessions of an Opium-Eater By Thomas De Quincey
A fascinating look at a prototype of the modern druggie. It's a short read and well-worth it.

All three are good and if you want something really far out there, I suggest:

    Memoirs of My Nervous Illness(
    Denkwürdigkeiten eines Nervenkranken) Daniel Schreber

I copied the German text on that, cause...damn, but even though it's not strictly a drugs/gonzo, stream of consciousness book, it is trippy as fuck. It's the ravings of a committed man and he's very insane. Very interesting.

  12. Oh wow nice! Requiem for a dream is a pretty good book too. It's a film but the novel explains a lot more, it still haunts me.

Patti smith is an amazing writer and her portrayal of New York as a struggling artist in the 60's and 70's is awesome in her book JUST KIDS. A must read.

There's a comic book series from Vertigo called Transmetropolitan where the story circles around a gonzo journalist of the future. His name is Spider Jerusalem and even his household appliances are on drugs.
