For me it's Abbey Road. The quality of production and overall musical craftsmanship makes it my favorite album. The Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End trifecta is my favorite of all.
The album which has had the biggest affect on me is Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Within you without you accompanied my first Ecstasy experience, I've listened to practically the whole thing on Acid and it's the Beatles album I referred to most when I was exploring my own musical composition. Abbey Road is near flawless though and a bit more grounded, it would probably be my stranded on an island choice.
When I go back and listen to early albums, Please Please Me, With the Beatles, Introducing... The Beatles, etc. I 'm amazed how well they hold up. When you consider the albums were put out at a time when few musicians wrote their own song, the output and quality is amazing. Revolver was ground breaking. Eleven John and Paul songs, Two by George, and one by John, Paul, and Ringo. This album marked the beginning of the second phase of the Beatles music. You can see them starting to grow musically and consciously. It marked the beginning of large scale studio work and musical innovations such as George Harrison's introduction of a sitar. Harrison would continue to look for new musical sounds at last finding the Moog synthesizer for the Abby Road album. Some of the songs aren't the best compared to later albums but it is ground breaking. I really can't pick between Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, and Abbey Road; although probably the two best are Sgt. Pepper and The White Album.
I used to listen to that record obsessively in high school. I still like it a lot! I particularly like A Day in the Life and Within You/Without you I am going to listen to it right now, as a matter of fact.
I was never a "Beatles Fan"... Probably the most played by me would be the "White Album".That doesn't make it the "best", just the most played.
sgt. peppers has a day in the life and lucy in the sky, right? & of course "sgt. pepper", but I don't know where bathroom window is... so, I'm going with dunno.
I like the Arty Sgt Peppers, when the corner was turned - and the group emerged from the Black and White to Colourful sound and presentation Abbey Road I play lot (with Poster on my wall), 'Side two' (almost) one track was itself unique The Beatles (White Album) allowed a content of cosmopolitan difference But I think I'll probably go for Revolver - the album when; IMO the Four became FAB
i never really listed to their various albums enough to form a favorite. i'm not even sure which songs are on which album for the most part. but when i was in college, i think probably 90% of our acid trips had magical mystery tour play at least once, so i do have a special place for that one, just for the associations it brings.
I love Abbey Road. Just got the newly remastered version, it's awesome. Punches you in the gut. Also loved the Sgt. Peppers redo... haven't got the White Album redux yet, but looking forward to Christmas Grew up on the Beatles... it's part of my life. Love em or hate em, there they are
Same here. And never got into the Stones either (adding that since there was some rivalry between fans of these bands: you're either a Stones or Beatles fan. I've never been either). I appreciate both but even though I'm a rock fan neither is even close to my top 10
