    so yeah there are some SHOCKING covers out there - among them Britney and I love Rock and Roll, Limp Bizkit and Behind Blue Eyes, that crap band 911 and everything they covered and argh, so many more travesties.

    but there are some great ones too, ones where the new song is almost as good as (if not better than) the original -
    Jeff Buckley and Halleluiah;
    Joss Stone's version of Fell in Love with a Boy;
    like the White Stripes and I just don't know what to Do with myself
    Gary Jules and Mad World
    and I really like some of Jamie Cullen's covers, like High and Dry (huge gamble in doing that, but I think he pulls it off) and Lover, you should have come over.

    so - what are other people's best and worst covers?

    The 13th Floor Elevators - "Baby Blue"
    The Doors - "Back Door Man"
    Cream - "Rollin' and Tumblin'"

    I agree with Frozen Moonbeam: Britney Spears also did a cover of "Satisfaction" and apparently Mick Jagger was peeved/befuddled/disgusted. I would be too. Celine Dion also covered AC/DC's "Shook me all night long." Eww. Limp Bizkit's cover of "My Generation" sucked (as do all of their songs). Fred Durst even stuttered ...dude, that is Roger Daltrey's part & don't you forget it, Fred! What enrages me even more: Hilary Duff's cover of "My Generation." Get this: her pop version includes the following lyrics->"Hope I DON'T die before I get old." Wtf!! Those altered lyrics goes against everything that the REAL 'My Generation' stood for back in the '60s.
    ...whoa, I'm one angry Wholigan.

    the Johnny Cash version of Hurt was rather good...not quite the same song though
    for a cover that was really lacking, I like to point to Smash Mouth-I'm a beleiver.

    Fuckin' shit! I didn't know that Hilary Duff covered "My Generation"! Ugh, disgusting. "I hope I don't die before I get old"!?!? Pff...

    I hate corporate music executives and their insane ideas.

    I have to go download that song now and hope that I don't puke when I hear it. ;)

    i like eva cassidy's cover of "somewhere over the rainbow"...if you haven't heard it, you should get it somehow, the arrangement is great and her voice is fantastic!

    bad covers = people who sing rock songs sweetly

    yeah his cover is awesome, but its just equally as good as the original version by leonard cohen. that song just sends shivers up my spine. I love it, no matter who does it.

    How bout I narrow it down. Any rock musicians with the name limp fucked it up lol I know a great cover though she did it live. Sara Mclachlan did "Blackbird" by the beatles.. It was so beautiful...ahhh i love her haha..I like Fiona Apples version of across the universe... Umm Take my breath away by heart which whats her face redid sucked.. I like lennons version of stand by me.. hmm I cant stand that band that redid boys of summer, umm Wtf is up with a metal band doing an imagine song by lennon? cmon.. I like the dixie dicks version of landslide better than MRS. GOAT NICKS mainly cause of the music and that song should have more of a folky sound to me.. um haha..I like 311s cover of the love song better than the cures original... oh one more Sheryl crow did a live version of "Hurt" IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL OMG.. I CANT FIND IT ANYWHERE i guess it was only that one time for johnny cash.. But oh well.. he didnt even write the song..
