http://www.theroot.com/articles/news/2015/09/ben_carson_to_nascar_fans_confederate_flag_okay_if_it_s_private_property.html Presidential candidate Ben Carson, the only black person playing in the 2016 Republican presidential field, gave the nod for NASCAR fans to continue flying the contentious Confederate flag, the Associated Press reports. Carson made the announcment Monday, which is the same day he snagged an informal endorsement from NASCAR racing icon Richard Petty. The two men appeared together at a camp for children with disabilities that is organized by Petty's foundation. And while Petty didn't explicitly say, "I endorse Ben Carson," he still said that he kind of was endorsing him. "We're hoping he's endorsing the camp; we're not necessarily endorsing him, but we are—you know what I mean?" the living legend told AP in a brief interview. "He's very humane ... that's one of his strong points as far as we're concerned." As AP notes, Petty's informal support gives Carson a big boost in credibility in North Carolina and other Southern states. When asked about Petty's description of the flag debate as "a passing fancy," Carson remained reserved in his commentary, saying that individuals should continue flying the flag "if it's private property and that's what they want to do," the newswire notes. The candidate did, however, acknowledge the flag as "a symbol of hate" for African Americans, before comparing it to the swastika. "Swastikas are a symbol of hate for some people, too. And yet they still exist in museums and places like that," Carson said. ''If it's a majority of people in that area who want it to fly, I certainly wouldn't take it down." Props to you King Petty!
This is probably the biggest bullshit I have read over the past few days. I'd really like to see that motherfucker live in swastika land.
I don't know who he is, but I think he's great. This is exactly how it should be too. In your personal surroundings, you can fly whatever damn bloody flag you like. And I also think it's great to see one person have their own opinion but acknowledge others have their own. Their opinions clash, but he's mature enough to say "you know what, we're all good, your opinions are your opinions. Y'all go fly your flag proud on your own property"
Not sure if you're serious or seriously stoned .... I hate to say this .... but that is one stupid-ass niggah.
Stupid for standing up for free speech and trying to break a contrived and divisive image of hate? Why's that stupid?
Did you read the OP? Carson isn't breaking anything. He likes that shit. He also thinks that that going to prison will make you gay. I don't know what it is with black GOP candidates but they seem really stupid. I still remember that pizza guy they had last time. Completely ridiculous dude.
Where's that exactly? I wonder how you picture it Is it neonazi land or something? Are all black people living in 'confederate flag land' having a bad time?
Asked what he'd do as president, about the hurricane, Carson replied...."I don't know." Neither did Shrub when Katrina hit.
The only such neighborhoods I know of in NC where the majority want to fly Confederate flags are the ones where this guy would fit in:
Some here in KY, who fly a confederate flag, claim to not be racist. I'm no mind reader so I give them the benefit of the doubt, however it's the about same here in KY regarding the neighborhoods in which you see the confederate flag flyers. Edit: In saying that I give them the benefit of the doubt, I mean that I have no way to disprove that they are not racist. I do believe whole heartedly, though, that the vast majority are racist. My opinion is based on 47 years of living in ky, with a few years of my college career spent in eastern ky, where racism is high, and the confederate flag is displayed with pride.
A lot of those people in those neighborhoods are good people, but they are way behind the rest of the world, and ignorant about things, and people, that/who are not like them because of exposure, or lack of. I guess that's true of anyone to a certain extent though.
I know what you mean. Along those lines, there are a fair amount of 'good' people' around here that will occasionally display only a lyrical form of racism, (usually in the form of really crude jokes that are only funny if you're actually racist. I like any joke if it's clever, racist or not!) as they've likely never even met one single black person their entire life. Other than the ones that acquired it generationally, (like from their great grandparents who moved here during abolition (t'wernt no "blackies" in Montana back then!), they get most of their racism from media. Btw, please pardon my protracted parentheticals, lol
Seeing how the whole country recently went apeshit and did irrational things like pull the Dukes of Hazard off the air, removed the flag from museums, encourage people to break in and steal confederate paraphernalia all because of one person's actions, someone has to stand up and say something.
my fucking god people...for the 18th time, the flag isn't illegal and no one is trying to make it illegal. You all still have your free speech, relax. so Ben Carson isn't really standing up for shit except the rights you already have. I stopped reading at like post 5 to skip down and say that.
