    Hi,

I had my hair dreaded in Thailand. I have pretty thick curly hair that tends to tangle on its own anyway. Ive always wanted dreads and I got the opportunity to have them done on the street by some thai guys. I think they scrimped a little on the amount they gave me (32) They are all pretty thick about little finger size. They kind of left me to my own devices, the ends are pretty loose and at the moment I look pretty ratty. 1st thing - what should I do next?? I haven't washed my hair yet. Should I wear a hat? Wear rubber bands at the end? Dread wax?? When should I wash it?? They kind of all stick straight up in the air. When will they relax?? I kind of wish I got more dreads out of my hair as I know they could of got more. Is 32 dreads enough??

Oh.. id say they are around 7 inch long

    Thanks for any replies

    Jay

32 is fine if thas wat u got
    wax shouldnt even be concidered
wash youyr hair at least weekly with dr bronners or simular
    no rubber bands
    hat sure why not
are u 100 percent sure he used no wax? i hope so
they will stick up till they begin to grow
wear a hat and they'll flatten

    pictures pleadse
    they always help

the ends being loose is perfectly fine, some prteffer to round themoff with ..well i'll let them tell ya i just let mine do theyre thing

basicly all thats left to do is wash em and let em be
time takes care of the rest

dreads should be washed with soap because it leaves no residue. real soap, not dove or handsoap or dishsoap. like natural soap form a health food store, or pears, or bee and flower. dr bronners is awesome but you have to dilute it properly.
i think 32 is a good number. i have 36 or so but my first set had only 19. dont use rubber bands and dont bother with the ends unless you want them rounded. i think its best to do that once theyve locked up a bit but im not sure, i just let mine be. they will relax soon, probably after their first wash but i found it helped to wear a beanie or tam for the first couple of days to flatten them. wool hats are good to wear, they encourage knotting. good luck :)

flakyness use dr bronners tea tree oil soap, diluted (12-1 recomended)if it ever is really bad add a dropperfull to the undiluted full bottle before u begin diluting
but best to wait till they tighten lil cause you are adding an oil

i find washing once a week with bronners i dont get itches, but go a couple days longer and it kicks in

hey thanks for the help!... I guess its obviously a waiting game. Ill use the dr bonners as recommended. Do you all reckon I leave my hair unwashed for like a week and then use the dr bonners? Ive got my hair in a real long beanie type hat at the mo... should I sleep in it?... I mean my hair! Ill work on that pic soon so I can get your comments
