I was just wondering ... what advise can be given to someone who is considering growing (strictly for personal use) for the first time? Is it possible to grow enough (say, 1/4 - 1/2 oz a month of decent strength stuff) in a corner of a room with a fluorecsent lamp, a small fan and a couple of plant pots? I have very limited room to grow with, you see!

    Thanks in advance

Sure it's possible but flowering under a small floro will have problems. Unless you get a good compact floro grow light with changable tubes from blue spectrum to red. You could do well with a shop light and one good but small hps light that would do a small closet full of buds. In any case I recommend my book to give you an idea how easy it can be. Bonanza of Green is geared for the begineer with questions just like yours. Got 18 bucks? It could be worth a fortune to you or even a bonanza! :)

I have to appologise ... I didn't know there was a difference in lights and thought florescent was standard kit in growing! I've done some research now! Would this lighting system be ok for a couple of plants? ... http://www.hydroponics-hydroponics.com/pd_maxibright_250w.cfm
I was thinking of that with a small rotating fan, some white sheets and some organic soil mix (as well as other bits like thermometers, etc). Thinking of growing Hawaii x Skunk#1 ... what do you reckon the chances are with the kit I mentioned?
    Thanks in advance.

Seeing as you are in the UK you can get envirolites (good grow fluoros) fairly cheap at http://www.growlightsdirect.com/index.html I think they are ideal for small personal use grows, low wattage and very little heat so they can be easily fitted in small spaces and are cheap to run. Just get one of the clay sockets or the reflector kit and you are away! There are two envirolite bulbs, a veg light and a flower light, both are perfectly callibrated (sp?) for growing doob.

I recommend the first light purchased be a 600 watt hps light and you can veg under regular old floros. If you want good flowering light hps is the best and what I recommend. They come in smaller sizes too but under a 400 isnt cost effective IMHO. BOG
