Yes, as per the above, I've been living on the road from Texas to the West Coast; up & down again for more than 3 months. I live by selling my art & doing commissions. This was a dream which I tried to get others interested in which I had to do alone in order to prove it was possible. If anyone would like to join me it would be a pleasure. Things would be more enjoyable with more people involved. You also need somebody to watch your back. Partying is better too. I have an equipped van, but you can bring your own vehicle/significant others if you want. I am presently on the lower middle coast of CA about 300 miles south of San Francisco. If you just want to try it for a while that's cool. I would prefer other artists as I am trying to give the shiest to all the hoops & rules & tralala that people have to dive through in order to sell their own work on the street. Believe me, it does work & also people that are paying for the public venues by the year are not having that much better luck according to them. Help Me Fuck the system. PS: Pls, No tweakers or needle freaks, Tks
think anythings like this would sell?: http://www.everythingandnothing.org/art2.html do you find it at all difficult to work while living on the move like that?
I'll be heading out to cali from NC in May or June. Do you think you'll still be in the area then? If so I'm up for joining you or at least chilling for a while. Are those paintings by you kaleidoscope? Those are wicked.
Maybe so, but summer is a good time to go North. This is a good place to winter over. If it wasn't for weather, it would be great in Chicago right now or the upper East Coast. According to the Street Performers & Buskers Advocates Info, Chicago was recently opened up completely due to a lawsuit won by a street performer & the ACLU. The upper East is particularly liberal to the Folk arts. The main thing is to get as many people to push the city ordinances to the limit as possible with the goal of getting these anal retentive cities to back off or be sued & stop trying to micromanage every fucking American's civil liberties. The Constitution guarantees a lot of things that local yokal municipalities chuck on the fire; detest, forbid, fear, disallow, etc.
I envision any kind of Art will do, but picking up at a moment's notice is often the key to guerilla-warfare. Then reappearing somewhere else. He that fights & runs away, lives to fight another day. This country wouldn't have such high unemplyment if everyone could market their individual talent without having to get bonafied, certified, FDA-a-fied; scrutinized, hoopified, stupified, purified & gone for a ride. They take fucking taxes out before you've every made any money when you have to pay to get into THEIR venue, art show etc. That's putrified crap. Musicians (audio-artists) also do well at this. A guitar is better than a huge setup & acoustic is better that electric. Any art that keeps it light & simple & can quickly appear & disappear can teach civil disobedience & art appreciation to this culture-starved country. It's done all over Europe & Asia. If I can make something I can sell it on the street. That is the Constitution as far as I am concerned. "Life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness." All these little civil codes are steeped in bullshit & deserve to be disobeyed as much as possible. Half of these people with startups & fucking galleries are floundering anyway. 80% of all restaurants fail within the first two years. It's a tax write off & they are just jealous to see you or I sell anything on the street. This is one reason why the economy has gone to shit. Sending profits to maufacturing abroad increasing the trade deficit & tripping up home-made products & stifling our own creativity & workers. REBEL! Liberte, Fraternite et Equalite!!!
i'd come with you now, but i'd like to finish high school first... how long are you planning on doing this?
Man, I'd totally be up with joining you. I'm a poet, musician (guitar player and singer), plus I also draw, paint, and photograph. The life you're living is EXACTLY what I want to do with my life, man. Simplify, and just fucking live. Live simply, so others may simply live... My only problem is...I live in Alberta, Canada. You're pretty far away. But, if you ever happen to come up this way, let me know. By that time, it may just be feasable for me to get on board. All the best to you, man. Take it easy. Peace, James
if it's all right, i'll join up with you in december. i need a little more time to save up some money, so i have enough to get to whereever you are then, and also for a little base to start off with.
