The place I work at is infested with bed bugs. They were discovered back in late November, but I am sure they were there longer than that because they were reported being found in numerous rooms in a very small time frame. They have had the pest control people out numerous times to spray, but only the individual rooms that were reported to be affected, when they should have sprayed the entire place top to bottom right from the start. Now bed bugs are being reported all over the building, and it seems to be even worse than it originally was, despite attempts to eradicate them. To make things worse, it's being covered up and nobody is letting the staff know what's going on, much less the residents' family members. After all, that wouldn't be good for business. Yet, from what I can see, efforts made to get rid of them have been feeble at best. So now I have to worry about possibly getting these things on me and bringing them home with me. Nice! If I didn't depend so much on my job, I would quit and go straight to the media about this. It is absolutely disgusting. And this is just one of many disgusting things I have seen working at this place.
And yet you complain and don't do anything about it. That kind of mentality will surely make the world a better place.
take it to osha. your job should be safe in theory, but even if not, haven't you been rather dissatisfied there anyway?
I am in the process of looking for another job... and going back to college. Ugh. It's not always easy to just find another job, unfortunately.
Just be very careful about checking your belongings an clothing at the end of each shift the last thing you want is to take these blood suckers home. I hope you find a new job soon!
I am sorry to hear of this problem, I have seen bites of the bed bugs. :hide: There is no organization (of safety or health for example) you can report this problem to? I traveled to Singapore with my boy friend some years ago, and the hotel was full with bed bugs. My boy friend had bites all over the body, but I do not react to them! They look very uncomfortable.
An "assisted living" facility for people with dementia. Anyway, they call it assisted living, but 95% of the residents could use the care of a fully-skilled nursing home. Where I work there is one aide per 21 residents, when most of these people are constantly pissing and shitting themselves and need around-the-clock care, which they are not receiving where they are. It makes me sick. I feel terrible for both the residents and the aides alike.
Well, yeah, but that doesn't do much good when they can crawl off your clothes when you walk into your house or apartment or as you're removing your clothes. They can even get in your shoes, and who is going to throw their shoes in the dryer every time they get home from work?
Well, this place is supposed to be "good," or at least it was at one time. It has went downhill so much in the three years I have been there. It's really fucked up. They cannot maintain a census, so they take in people who don't even belong there at the expense of the residents and those taking care of them.
so why are so many people that need a nursing home living in assisted living? is it a matter of pride, or is it cheaper, or what? someone with bedbugs in their shoes.
Just reading this thread has me feeling like I want to scratch. How sad that people who should be shown dignity have to put up with that.
Pressed_Rat starts working there - place goes down hill fast ... mmmm. Coincidence? Seriously... This seems a more pressing issue (although I read it is not uncommon). It sounds like a shit hole. But, I can't be too fair because I have no idea where you work. If it is so bad - I'd take pictures, write a report and send it all to: Gary Kirkmire Director of Inspection & Compliance Services 30 Church Street - Room 028B Rochester, NY 14614 (585) 428-6520 (Is that the right person?) http://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=8589939496
