hi i want to make bead curtains for my doorway because none of the ones i have seen in stores seem like me. there are some cool beads at the local bead store; has anyone here ever made bead curtains? do you maybe have instructions? it doesn't seem like it would be too hard, but like do you have any idea how many beads i would need to get or aything? thanks.
I've never made any but have thought about it! I thought about using fishwire and some cool beads. I don't know if fishwire would work but I think it would.
its real easy.....get a peice of wood as the base....the thing all the beads will hang from,.. go get some hemp rope....and thousands of beads.....think of a pattern and start laying em down....
the book Living on earth has directions in it to make a beaded curtain. It also has directions to make (i belive) paper beads that you could shape and colour how you wanted to. I think making the beads would be time consuming but for a decent beaded curtain your gonna need lots of beads and depending on what you what kind of beads you want it could run into hundreds of dollars for the beads. check out the book you can buy it on several used book sites and probably amazon.
there is a cheap, environmentally friendly, imho bautiful method of beadmaking, but it is very time consuming. You need some paste for wallpapers, tons of old magazines or newspapers, toothpics and scissors. you cut triangles out of the newspapers, the base is about as wide as you want the bead to be long( I recommend 1.5-2 cm) the hight, about (4-5 cm) then you roll the paper around the toothpic, and fix it with paste. But it takes forever to make a curtain. Other methods are using makramé, to make thick strings and you can save beads, otherwise it might be really expensive. I don't know what you are like, but there are tons of materials of the daily life that can be converted into beads, if you are short on money.
Let me think here...for a simple bead curtain,I would first buy a piece of thin wood for the top piece that holds all of the strings...and you'll want to drill holes all the way across for the strings to fit into. Measure your door way from the top, down to where you want the bead curtain to stop...then,if you can figure out how big each bead is,then you could get a rough estimate of how many you would need. Say each bead was an inch long,so you would have 12 beads in a foot..and if you needed 6 foot strings of beads, you would need 72 beads per string...then multiply that number by how many strings of beads you want. I'm not good with math, and my head may explode if I go on,but that's what I would do,anyways,to figure out about how many beads I would need. One you had all of the strings of beads tied to the piece of wood, then just screw in two eyehook things and you're all ready to hang it up. Errr,I hope that helps some
thank you everyone who posted, you were a great help. i am going to buy the book that was recommended and go from there. my sister has found me some great beads, and i think i shall try to use those. i'll post a picture when i finish
I've made my own... I got a solid stick that would fit the with of my door, and with nylon string I measured the lenth of my door several times. Just string your beads on the nylon string and secure. I used some glow in the dark beads, looks sooooo trippy!
