Anyone live near a beach? Where are all the beach people at? I grew up near Venice and saw a lot of strange characters. What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen at a beach? Street musicians, performers, anything.
Great thread! I lived relatively near the beach as a kid in Rio. Copacabana beach was a bit far, but Botafogo beach (which is really a landfill and very polluted) was a stone's throw away. Back in the 80s, the sidewalk running along the beach was a place of grime and danger in Rio by night. It was only later that fluorescent lamposts and nightwatch huts were built. Of course, until today there is unabated prostitution going on. But a lot more geared toward tourists, and therefore a lot more polite. Rio was always a coke town, but a swear I remember seeing a little heroin among the night creepers on the beach back then (though I wasn`t very aware of the difference between different drugs). Which, if you understand how much the cocaine kingpins got that town on lock, is amazing...because it would generate competition and turf disputes. ------------------ What I miss the most was the live sex theater. Couples used to perform on stage, and as a kid me and the other boys in the neighborhood tried to sneak in every which way we could repeated times, only to be kicked out or blocked at the door by orangutang bouncers. That theater was a place of fantasy for me and the other kids in the neighborhood in our pre-adolescence. We all wanted to grow old to get in it someday. And now that I am old enough, it no longer exists. Now, a mall with blipping lights stands in its place. The beach was cleaned up, but neither does watching people having sex on stage appeal to me as much. ------- In my teens, I moved to New York. I got some Coney Island stories as well, but I`ll leave it for another day. Edit: So are you going to tell us about Venice? I`ve always wanted to see it with my own eyes.
I don't live near a beach (maybe about 2-3 hours from the coast) but I was a lifeguard at the beach for a few years and I've seen plenty of crazy things! One of my favorites was the floating maxi pad that caused everyone to get outta the water because they feared for AIDS. I broke up quite a few gay sex adventures in the dunes and also caught a few 11 year olds giving each other head once...good times, good times
I live on an island, of course there's a bunch of beaches near by. I hardly go anymore now that I've moved away from the non-tourist side of the island. My favorite beach, I call it turtle beach but I think it has a different official name, is on the west side of Oahu and chances are when you visit there are going to be sea turtles beached. Lanikai beach is probably the most beautiful beach on the island.
I don't swim in the ocean. It's a different world down there. I always swim in freshwater particularly in the summers in isolated water holes in the mountains that come from melted snow. Nothing is more vigorating than a a skinny dip in icy freshness. Enjoy your sore nipples, losers. Hahah
Venice is populated by street performers, including a Hendrix impersonator on rollerblades. There's also this guy, who I just found out is a local legend (like the naked cowboy in NY). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxKqcp9f-S8"]YouTube - nude dude skating These are great stories. Anyone else been to venice?
Once I heard the second little piggie (who was kinda' stokin', and spent most of his days just a-ganja smokin') could be found on venice beach, gettin' paid money for religious speech....
But the first little piggy...(Well he was kinda hicky spent most of his days just a dreamin of the city, then one day he bought a guitar moved to hollywood to become a star..
i've never lived near a real beach, but i grew up not far from a huge swimming pool (the pool itself was over an acre) that called itself a "grass beach." also, i've never lived more than about 45 minutes from lake erie, so there's always been access to shitty lake beaches. well, i technically lived a few streets from the gulf of mexico when i was an infant, but that doesn't really do me much good..
back when i was really young and my family actually used to go on vacations, my dad had a tradition of making sure to take a picture of at least one female bathing suit ass on every trip. it's a tradition i hope to continue if i ever have a family.
When I was a kid in NY- spent lots of time take the train to Coney Island. - When I was 20 yrs old- the only beach I saw was "China Beach"- Later I moved and lived in Huntington Beach Ca Now at this stage in life- I live 1 block from the Ocean in a small beach town on the NJ shore I love the Ocean air- and the life style. For some reason it makes the stress easier for me to deal with- jjack
some crazy people (probably high) doing some voodoo things with candle on the sand and stuff like that haha
