whats the rules on not wearing shoes in school??

at freshman orintation at my high school (im a sophmore now) the principle (kinda as an afterthought once he finished talking about everything he needed to cover) was like "and you must wear shoes. period."

what are the actually laws/regualations or whatever on not wearing shoes in school? because i'd love to not wear shoes at school.. blahh.. shoes suck. i'd also love to turn more people onto barefootin' by not wearing shoes in school!

    so, whats the dealio guys?

The school sets the rules, and you follow them. Sucks, don't it?

yea its not a law, its a rule and in school ya follow em or(if ya get caught) they punish ya. I just found out im not supposed to wear my sandels in school, but a teacher hasnt told me yet so i do anyway(kickin em off once i get on the bus/in the car). There also arnt health codes against barefootin(atleast in the US), but sometimes stores make ya do it anyway. Just gotta deal

I think people need laws protecting them so that the schools n such cant take advantage of them. I think those places should mostly be able to regulate things but I think personal choices such as wearing shoes or not should be up to the individual and the law should protect their right to chose.

how can i represent that im barefoot and proud of it... without being barefoot?

Talk about it! I have to at least have sandals on at work too, but I tend to talk about barefootin at work. Now that it is spring time, I can't help but talk about it when I can't be it. Also, rules usually do not apply outside the building. I make it a point not to put on shoes until the last possible moment. So I take my sandals off and carry them the second I walk out that door and I carry them to the door and put them on there too. If It is not school, work, or anywhere else you could get in big trouble, then go barefoot until told otherwise. In the grocery store today, I brought my shoes with, but only so I could put them on if giving the choice between being escorted out and putting on shoes. Luck was with me this time and no one noticed, so my shoes stayed in the cart. lol

That's a very passive attitude, very un-hiplike, and a bit oldfashioned as well, like something my mom would say from back when she went to school. Lots of schools even have student councils where you can address it if you want to change something. We didn't have a dress code at school but we argued and protested against anything we didn't like back in high school... and it wasn't even the sixties anymore either!

Hookworm can enter your body through the skin of your feet, and people can catch worms spread through dog & cat feces (sanitation has greatly limited the amount of human feces in most places in the western world). But it's not a great risk, no greater than petting animals & not washing your hands immediately afterwards, and how many pet owners run to the sink to wash up after petting their dog or cat? Also it's easily treated; the severe cases of aneamic people, often children, you can often find pictures of are all third world cases where people have no access to modern medicine, or older cases.

My school's student council was useless except for doing dances and stupid shit like that. There's just no way around the fact that what the school says, goes. You want to go in barefoot, you'll probably be sent home. Keep doing it and you'll get detention or suspension. And the majority of kids wouldn't really support a protest for barefooters, since most wouldn't be caught dead outside their $100-$200 status symbols.

Our school rocked when it came to this... I can't remember anyone being sent home or anything, and even making you stay after hours was rare. Then, that's 20 years ago.

Do you think you have support among your fellow students? You can always try, and petitions shouldn't get you into trouble even nowadays...

Yeah too bad you cant get the parents to chip in because usually when parents B**** enough about an issue to a school they usually give in about it because the parents are the ones paying the teacher's salaries through taxes n such and the school would be a fool to ignore the desires of so many parents. I think both parents and students and even maybe some teachers or school staff should pitch in about the issue. The more of a stink you make the more theyll be willing to change the rules.

That's the beauty of government...some big someone sets some rules and you "MUST" follow them. I hear ya though, I hate the whole "No shirt, NO SHOES, no service" signs.

Don't worry about the worms. Unless you live in a third-world area infested with feces all over the place, they are not a threat to you. And even if you DID catch them, which you will not, they are treatable and you can get cured of them rather easily.

    Relaaaax, dude! :)

Did you even read the thread? I already addressed the worms in post #9 in this same thread, immediately above your first post asking about it!
