I love to drive barefoot, a few years ago my husband and I were going on a weekend trip. We left very early Sat morning, I had packed everything the night before. We got up, loaded the car and left, of coarse I was barefoot. My husband wanted to stop for breakfast a few hours later, we stopped at a Bob Evans. I reached in the back seat to get a pair of shoes out of the bag I had put all of my shoes, socks, ect... in to find we did not bring that bag. My husband offered to wait a few hours for breakfast so we coud drive a little farther and find a store that would be open so I could get a pair of shoes. I said that I would like to eat now, so we went in Bob Evans. I was wearing a nice pair of shorts and a summer blouse, so I am sure that everyone at Bob Evans noticed that I was barefoot but nobody said a word. We left after breakfast and continued to drive to the Hotel, I checked in barefoot without any problems. Later that afternoon I stopped at a shoe store and bought a pair of flips and a pair of heels to wear to dinner that night. We did all of the sight seeing we wanted to do and I was still barefoot. Later that night we were going to a nice restaurant for dinner. I had a great little black dress on and showed my husband the the heels I had bought earlier. To my surprise he suggested that I not wear the shoes but go to the restaurant in my barefeet. Since I prefer to be barefoot anyway I went barefoot. The hostess at the restaurant looked at my feet for a few seconds but seated us without any problems. We had a great dinner!!! So I went the entire weekend barefoot, my husdand and I still talk about it occaionally and a couple of times since then when we were going to dinner alone, he has asked me to not wear shoes.

bfgal, thanks for sharing - sounds like a really fun trip! Hope to hear more experiences of you going barefoot, whether it was your own idea, or at your husband's request. Have you ever taken pictures of yourself barefoot in a store or a restaurant?

I have never taken pictures, but I often remove my shoes when we are eating in a restaurant. I also like to go to the hair dresser barefoot or remove my shoes while getting my hair done, I find it very relaxing.

Yeah I've enjoyed that experience as well...though not for a while. I used to go to a salon where I was allowed to come in barefoot, but the one I go to now doesn't. I even wrote a note to them waiving my rights to sue them IF I got a "hair splinter" but still, no joy. But the stylist I have now is irreplaceable - so I still go, with flip flops on, which is just as "dangerous" as being barefoot. I don't get people.

I work in Real Estate, I often am barefoot when in my office and often host open houses barefoot if the client does not want shoes on the flooring.
However we rent our office space and the main entrance to the building has a sign requiring shoes, but we do not enforce it, we occasionally will get potential clients stop by barefoot and always make them feel welcome.

Hi bfgal - great story. Would you please tell us where you're from and where you went on this trip? I live not too far from the Texas Gulf Coast and enjoy barefooting year round. I have had similar experiences to yours.

bfgal, that's a very nice story. I'm curious whether your husband also has any desire to be barefoot himself? I, as the husband in our case, would certainly want to be, any place it's possible or allowed. I couldn't imagine it if only my wife could have that pleasure, and I couldn't.

I always kick off in restaurants and similar places, too. Especially during the 6-9 months that sandals are possible in this climate. Again, though, since you're still a fairly young woman, you may be able to get away with more of it .

    Hi Bfgal,

Like everyone else I appreciate you sharing your experiences on your weekend trip. It's great that there are still some places that aren't uptight about people being barefoot.

I wonder however if the roles were reversed, and it was your husband that was barefoot if it would have been the same positive experience? In my experiences women have always been able to be barefoot in places where men have been asked to leave because they were barefoot. I'm not trying to make this a sexist thing, just presenting my experiences.

Does your husband ever go barefoot at all? It would be great to see both a husband and wife a barefoot team. I wonder what your experience would be like if you both were barefoot.

I had a early dinner date with my husband today. I had on an teal sun dress and a pair of flips, when I arrived at the restaurant the parking lot was fairly emplty such it was still early for most people to be at dinner. I decided to see if this restaurant would let me in barefoot so I left the flips in the car, my husband seems to like for me to be shoeless anyway. I was greeted by the hostess with no problem and I am sure she noticed. My husband arrive about 10 minutes later and the hostess lead him to our table. He sat across from me and I placed my bare feet on his lap. I got a great foot massage during dinner. After dinner the manager came to our table to check on our service and I am sure that he and also our waiter noticed my bare feet but nothing was said .

It would be so awesome if you guys posted a sign outside your office's entrance (not the main building's entrance) that said "Bare Feet Welcome Here" or something like that :) It doesn't have to be big...maybe a personal labeler size thing stuck outside the doorway.
