The more I go barefoot, the more I want to go barefoot some more. So I take daily walks and do errands barefoot, 'cause damn it feels great. City streets, various pavements, grass, mud, dirt trails, store floors (the BEST!)--all good. If Mom and Dad had let me go everywhere barefoot, I wouldn't a been such a shitty teenager. Oh, well....
we all probably came a couple of generations too late, that's all. once going barefoot on sizzling asphalt and coarse gravel was badass, or hip, or just a choice. people today is soo squeamish
Agreed. It seems the more you stimulate the sense nerves in the foot, the more they crave to be stimulated.
When you go sightseeing, you get curious about all the new things you see. When you go barefoot, you get curious at all the new things you feel too, although I wouldn't say that I always have an "urge" to go barefoot, I just treat it as daily life.
Having worked from home for two months now, it is very much daily life for me. Before, I was barefoot during almost all non-working hours, but now, it's all the time. I LOVE it! Honestly, I cannot imagine going back to how things were before, and I'm working on a plan along that line.
Interesting how that works. I had no idea years ago when I got that idea in my head lets see if I can make my feet tough that I would end up hating to wear shoes. I still say barefooting has to be promoted as a sport for it to really catch on. So many articles on the benefits but they dont explain it right.
Seriously if you are going to write a benefits of bare footing article explain how in the beginning it kind of sucks where every little pebble and rough surface is a tragedy but that quickly goes away. Its a sport loosing the shoes it takes a little practice.
I've written about barefooting asa sport. It really is. You have to train your leg muscles to adjust to a natural (unshod) stride and your soles to natural terrain. When the body is used to unnatural constrictions, "going native" isn't all that natural. That's why you have to adjust to going barefoot as a routine practice.
I think it would require some massive cultural shifts as well as more mainstream attention outside of a few barely known studies and one odd article from a tabloid.
What a great pic. I'm old enough to remember those days but was too young at the time to fully enjoy them. That scene is unimaginable today.
But not tomorrow... things keep going in and out of fashion, like long hair: fashionable in the early nineteenth century among soldiers, then again during the summer of love... who knows what the future is holding for tomorrow. maybe full nudism ha ha !
Maybe things could change. 100 years ago swimsuits were full body and terrible. I'd imagine that eventually logic will prevail and barefooting will be more common.
Nice pic. It's by famous photographer Elliott Erwitt from 1966 in Los Angeles (honor to whom honor is due ;-) ). Elliott Erwitt - Wikipedia
Me too, i have to wear shoes at work, but when I'm shod i always look forward to kicking off my shoes and freing my feet
I would just like to add, and it is what nuspieds said earlier, but *starting* barefooting can be hard. But once it begins, it is hard to stop. I can't imagine wearing shoes daily. It would be like wearing blindfolds.
