I posted this yesterday but it seems to have been "lost" so I'll throw it out there again... Silicon Valley's newest startup trend? Shoeless office policies.
Dunno. For us, it would be great. What about habitually shod people who might only take their shoes off at work so they can "fit in". Then they are padding around in their fungal ridden socks or bare feet. Gross.
i posted yesterday that i like how it is at my workplace where several of us sometimes go barefoot, but there's no policy forcing an unnecessary dress code one way or the other.
During the warm months i often wear leather flipflops for work, easy to put off under your desk. As long as there are no VIPs around, my coworkers don't mind if i go barefoot in our little division, but it's not welcome to walk barefoot over the whole branch (i already had some talk with the HR department about this). Well, i have a real nice job so i consider the norms, no problem. During my trainee time i went through a number od divisions of my company and actually in two of them they made not a fuss about going on bare paws. This was at an IT support and at a warehouse, but this is years ago, don't know if this would work today. It's funny, when if we have a problem and i call the IT guys, they still remember me as the barefoot trainee and i guess this has a positive influence on the response time ;-) But anyway, i think the startup in the linked text has a good understanding of making work more comfortable, creative and effective.
I will wear sandals to work on our "casual Fridays" and they often end up under my desk as I walk around the office. No one seems to mind - I just can't be barefoot in the production areas.
I can loose the shoes at my desk, but they are required everywhere else. Flip-flops are not allowed. Sadly, it is a good rule in our case.
