I've just been reading about this guy. Interesting blog and articles, nice and positive. Thought I'd share http://robgreenfield.tv/barefoot/ Shayla x :daisy:
Interesting. However, nude hiking does nothing to impress (except for the nudists). Lots of confidence building if not somewhat advanced progression for the new barefooter, perfect for the barefooter transitioning to more frequent within their own wants and limits. But this disappointed me: "I avoid blacktop when I can. Blacktop gets unnaturally hot. I prefer a life with plants under my feet. However my feet can handle pretty hot blacktop. I can probably do 100 degree blacktop but I've never measured the temperature so i don't know". Not saying he should go out and burn his soles, and I even I do that gradually as whether gets progressively hotter... but at the same time that is part of the take every surface as it comes barefooting, not having to avoid any surface unless there is a choice between two surfaces, and relying on shade or white lines isn't longer distance effective. There is a difference between 100 degrees blacktop temperature and 120+ degrees blacktop temperature in 100 degrees weather. Infrared thermometers range from $20 to the pocket sizes ones to $100+ that look like radar guns used to measure speed. One summer when I only lasted 40 steps before having to go to grass, because of almost no shade large enough to stand in: 133 degrees F blacktop. Ouch! HOT! 40 steps is still the length of a shorter pedestrian crossing the street.
Unlike this guy, I don't have the need to swear off shoes completely. In fact, I can't do it completely. You can try to be the badass barefooter all you want, but a -30 Celcius (-22 Fah) cold wave is no place for bare feet. You will develop frost bites within the first 2 minutes.
" I don’t really want to go the places that require shoes anyway. Being barefoot keeps me out of the places that I don’t want to go (like the bars). And this keeps me healthier and saves me a lot of money." I totally relate to that. "eventually I felt like my feet had grown a natural pair of shoes right on them." Yep, if someone comments I am barefoot maybe they noticed but its not on my mind and more then being bare handed at the time. I will have to read more of this later.
