Gotta go into the office today (Saturday), and I'm going to be barefoot since the suits won't be around...might even bare more than my feet if the opportunity arises. Anyone else done the barefoot at work thing?

I don't really have a job, just work in my mother's saloon sometimes, and go barefoot there quite a lot. It's never been an issue.

I also go barefoot in college. That's cool too.

I've gone barefoot at all my jobs here in CA. Software development jobs are usually pretty accomodating of creative types. :sunglasse

    you are lucky Paul, congrats.

I get to go barefoot at work on weekends and nights, although at night I gotta show up wearing shoes and once 5pm hits and the bosses are gone .. off they come.

I usually come into work in my sandals or tennis shoes and then off they come under the desk. I have to imprison my feet to walk around but I get to at least be bare foot under my desk for a few hours at a time.

I'm barefoot at my desk often. Happily, I work in an informal research office and there's no formal dress code. It isn't kosher to walk around barefoot, but I only need to slip my sandals on.

Thanks for the replies...nice to know others are barefootin' it on the job! Unfortunately, I never had the office to myself, so my feet were the only thing that I was able to bare...

I go 24/7 befoot in the summer time, I work in a taxi cab dispatch office in the Canadian arctic. In the winter time I mostly use winter boot with no socks so when I enter the office I take them off and work barefoot. In the fall I do ware shoes and socks but removed them when I get to work or some of the other public building in my town that have a notie asking people to remove their shoes so as to not dirty their floor with mud or wet snow.I enjoy my job my job vary much, If I had to ware shoes or even socks or sandlas of any kind I would not fell rexed, I don"t think I would be able to work the long hour I work seven days a week during the long dark winter when it can get colder then -40.but I look forward to spring time when I switch from boots to sandlas to travel to my barefoot office job. but I like summer the best because it"s so enjoyable to walk across town to my job in barefeet waring only shorts and tank top,Sometimes it gets as hot as 30"s (90"s F) during the arctic summer when the sun stays up 24 hours a day.Too bad people are not allowed to go nude.If allowed I would go nude 24/7 during the summer!

I thought I'd found the 'holy grail' a couple of years ago when I joined a small company with a pretty relaxed dress code - well, actually there was no dress code :). I broke them in gently. I travelled to work barefoot but slipped on a pair of flip flops as I got off the train before crossing the road and arriving at the office 'shod'.

I then kicked off the flip flops as soon as I got to my desk. They remained off my feet and under my desk for the rest of the day. (I would always go home barefoot - Hey, they can't dictate what you wear when you leave can they ?)

Whenever anybody came over to ask me for help (a regular occurance - I was the office 'I.T. guy'), rather than 'waste time' hunting around for my flip flops I just jumped up from my desk and walked barefoot to wherever they needed my help. This got them used to seeing me barefoot without necessarily appearing too 'odd' (we were indoors, it was Summer, 'He obviously just wants to help me as quickly as possible').

After a week or two of this 'indoctrination', I didn't bother putting the flip flops on for the 'arrival charade' any more. I just strolled in to work barefoot.

If anybody noticed, nobody said anything. That was it. From then on I was barefoot the whole time until the inevitable arrival of frost and freezing cold miserable UK late October weather.

This wondeful scenario was ruined last year when we got bought out by a multi-national. Immediately things changed and were not as relaxed. Still, I managed to quit them and have now joined another smaller, less 'hung up', company. Once the weather improves, I'll try the same strategy again. Can't see any reason why it wont work (I'm hopeful anyway).

Watch this space, I'll let you know how it goes.

    All the best to all,
    Rick.

apple seed, I'm not discounting the fact that, as you said, the school you work for certainly would not allow you to be barefoot while working, but, really, why would it matter that you are working with food? Working with food is no reason not to be barefoot, that is unless you plan to be putting your feet into the food. Then there possibly could be an issue if your feet are dirty.

If your middleschool is grades 7- + then thats not too good of an idea, at my school LOTS of gum on the ground the gum turns black after like 2 days. mM but i wouldnt mind buying something from the al acarte or getting lunch and seeing a nudist (if shes hot) lunch lady. then again, this thread is about barefooting. i dont think it would be very good at a middle school.
