Barefoot at 42 Degrees F

  1. (That's 5.5 C for our European cohorts).

Best exercise I had all day. Of course, it was the ONLY exercise, but why quibble? I did the 1.5 miles barefoot. :)

    Nice! Run or walk/hike?

I don't think people realize if your foot muscles are working instead of sitting there doing nothing inside a shoe, your feet can stay reasonably warm in surprising temperatures. I've barefoot hiked with melting snow along side and in some places on the trail. I was surprised how relatively warm my feet were as long as I kept moving.

  3. Walked. Briskly. Nonstop. Continuous. BAREFOOT!!! :)

still about 20 C° here. took a sunbath yesterday. found the stickiest.mud.ever. on paths in the wood. there were trails that rain in the past days (which also gave me the opportunity for a refreshing nightly rain shower) had them turned into a perfectly smooth, inviting and flat carpet of mud :2thumbsup:. the bad news was, a very slippery kind of that. i could barely stand and walk and a couple of times i almost had a mud bath. had to wash that away before visiting a supermarket and a couple of hw stores...

p.s.the oatmeal is some smart fella.

I try to stay away from running in 40 degree weather simply because my feet get a little numb and I can't feel the ground....Not good!

Occasionally on a sunny day. At this temperature and below I usually have a heavy sock on my foot.

I went running one day last week when it was around 39 F I think. Wore a jacket and lined tights, but no shoes or gloves. Hands and feet felt nice and warm after the first mile.
