who else here kinda hates christmas? the best time of the year for divorce, drunken brawling and guilt. and the best part is that unless you want people on your ass for being a scrooge, you pretend to be "merry." i'm especially loving my sig quote (with great thanks to skip for such a diversely applicable statement). people frothing at the mouth to buy stuff, the FUCKING TRAFFIC, the rude, tired, overstressed store help. WTF? i catch more shit offa people around christmas than any other time. why am i supposed to be merry?

see, this is why i love the 4th of july the most. all you have to do is BYOB and eat some slightly burnt hot dogs while cooling your feet in some form of water. and the cities will run the lights show while you tailgate. and you don't have to buy ANYTHING.

 

I still have to do most of my shopping.

After that though, X-mas'll be pretty great. I like getting a break and spending time with family.

But I'm feeling much more peace and love to all mankind lately.

 

I'm not giving anyone a Christmas present this year.
1) I can't afford any.
2) I don't have the time for it really.
3) I'd much rather buy a present for the people I love throughout the entire year, not just because I've been brainwashed to only do it in December. If during the year I come across something that I know a certain person will love, I'll buy it for them. I'm not just going to buy something for the sake of getting them something.

wow.. deja vu... a girl and I were talking about this the other day at work and said almost this exact thing. I love christmas for christmas. I don't like getting stressed out so I don't. I get all excited decorating the tree and listening to christmas music and watching movies and such. But I agree there has been so much commercialization (is that the word? is that even a word? you know what I mean) that it makes the holiday season crappier than it should

 

I enjoy christmas, and I finished my shopping today. I just need to finish making things now (sweats and some baking mix stuff)

i'm not anti-xmas. i wish for nothing more than for a xmas not to go to shit. but the last good xmas i had was when i was 7. when i was 8, our house was broken into and all our presents stolen, the next year my parents were getting a divorce and we were freezing and broke. the next xmas my mother married my stepfather and a whole new round of beatings and drunken fighting began. and then it just went downhill from there.i mean, why do they bother? i assoiciate the whole setting up the tree to be just another fight in the offing. and now i have to be the one to create some magical fucking atmosphere for my daughters, even though we've been barely eking out an existance for the past 7 years. WTF?

 

Christmas growing up was always a happy time for my family and I. When I had kids that special feeling returned. Once my shopping is done I don't mind Christmas at all.

I'm turning into a real bleeding heart. when I see people putting up hundreds of $$$$ of xmas decorations, and think about all the money they're going to blow on their electric bill this month, then I go downtown and see some veitnam vet eating out of a garbage can...

On the one hand I'm glad I'm not him, on the other hand I'm really glad I'm not one of these other idiots.

 

im neutral towards christmas and i dont go anywhere this time of year even more then usual.

Christmas has kind of lost steam in my family. We still get together and have a good time, but the youngest 'kid' is now 24, so we all pretty much just get together, eat, party and be merry for the day - don't really exchange gifts anymore, just enjoy each others company.

I'm sure someday when I have a family of my own, the feeling will change again - much like Ol' Hippie described

 

I'm done with all my christmas shopping and holiday partys sigh now I'm just super happy to not have to worry about anyone but me.

 

same here after the stress out stuff is done it's fun. I love spending all day and night with my family and the silly movies and the snow ball fights with fake snow at the ice rink...i'm good i'll kick your ass in a snow ball fight marc.
