Ok, there's a bad situation. say you found someone u love, yeah I know heard all of the time. Say you swear you love this person to death... The problem is he comes from a traditional Aisan family and u come from a traditional African family. His family wants him to have NO contact with any female, with the exception of one he is related to until he is out of college and then marry a "cliche' Asian female" (his choice of words) with a 4.0 adverage and they will keep and eye on him until the day he dies. your mum wants u to marry an adverage royal African man who comes from a reputable family, she's already got guy who are talking about when u can come to Nigeria to see them. what do u do?
Well this is just me but if he agrees that he loves you too Id say wait until you were both a little older and run away together, shut your families out of your lives if they arent willing to agree for you two to be together, but thats just my opinion.. but untul then stick it out I mean afterall, your only 14 you might find someone else before then you love more..
Brainstew - at age 14 you have a lot of growing up to do before you grapple with marriage issues. But be careful regarding Nigerian men. In much of Nigeria, the families are Muslim, and still practice genital mutilation on their women - cutting out the clitoris to make you more docile and submissive to your husband - a barbaric custom now illegal in the United States and many other countries. It is in northern Nigeria where this custom is practiced most - in southern Nigeria most of the people are Christian.
The situation wasn't supposed to be about me...because im 14 I knew the advicer would be very different from someone who is say..21. Give advice for a 21 year old please.
Honestly sounds like in the movies when they run away togather and live hapilly ever after. But i think that you are too young to make some big steps in your life now and to make a whloe rebel. Just take it easy, stay friends or stay in the relationship whatever, and wait for some time to pass and then see how you feel. Maby is true love, whoknows? peace
