What helps to alleviate problematic knees?

Any preventative measures you could take if you have knee problems? What do you guys do to keep your knees healthy?

I have bad knees from playing soccer as a child. I'm also not very flexible at all.

I'm always subject to being sore when I wake up, and my knee feels crazy when meditating.

I am the master of fucked up knees. I use a nice rub on, then a mixture of glucosamine and chondroitin, then I use more of this rub on stuff, then I use some tylenol for arthritis and just before bed some more rub on shit. Soo I get to enjoy this in my knees, already in my back from years ago, in my shoulders and starting to dig into my ankles. I am looing for a new cocktail to assist with the fun filled future :D

I destroy my knees skating and snowboarding. Right now one of them is pretty jacked, so I couldnt tell you :(

Whenever it hurts though I use the RICE technique. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. I also wear an ace bandage or brace when active

What kind of strengthening would you recommend? Yoga type posture positions? Doing reps each day?

    Thanks.

i would definitely work on performing a full squat barefoot. glute-bridges (both single and double leg), lunges, single leg stuff...

work on soft tissue quality of your legs - loosen up your IT band, loosen up the calves, stretch the quads and hip flexors. foam rolling - self myofacial release is great to address this.

fitzy is right on of course... you need to strengthen your calves and thighs. try calf raises and squats.

    get some fish oil
and you can try out some glucosamine/chondroitin, and MSM

make sure you ankle mobility is decent. other problem may present in the wrong pair of shoes/sneakers - how you walk - how you stand up from sitting - how you sit - etc - could be effecting your knee(s)

Its good to avoid products with "aspartame" if you have joint pain

Oh yeah, I forgot about that totally. I know that the ingredients in pop depletes bone marrow, but thanks for the reminder. I avoid aspartame to begin with.

And thank you fitzy, you've been a really excellent help with this. Much appreciated darling.

    :)
