You'll fuck up your lungs a bit and they reckon if you smoke fairly high-powered weed for long enough you could get psychosis. It's like everything though if you smoke in moderation you'll be fine.

You don't develop psychosis or schizophrenia from just smoking pot. It goes for a lot of drugs, but they say if you have a history of schizophrenia in your family, then it could bring it upon you earlier, but it's a case of If you don't have it now, You will have it in a few years type thing.
One joint is equal to four ciggerates, so if your a weekend warrior, you don't have to worry about damage to your lungs in my opinon.

The Partnership for a Drug-Free America claims that if you smoke marijauna heavily, your short-term memory can be impaired from a day after to even a month, but that is complete bullshit I think.

There aren't really any LONG term effects other then damaging your lungs.

I don't know where the fuck you heard you could develop psychosis from smoking good bud, that is the biggest load of bull ever. You don't happen to work for freevibe do you Spacer?

It does affect short-term memory, your memory becomes fuzzy and if you are a heavy smoker it could take a few weeks off it to clear your head

here's a link here about psychosis http://www.priory.com/psych/cannabis.htm it makes sense if you think about it, obviously if you smoke all the time non-stop for years it's gonna affect you psychologically. Obviously if you aren't a heavy smoker for a prolonged period you'll never encounter it, but if you are it's possible. I had a mate who smoked all day every day for about 4 years and when he gave up, he went wierd for a good 2 weeks, he was just freaked out if you know what I mean (not full blown psychosis). But if you were smoking every day for 10 years can you imagine what it's do to you. It's a psycho-active substance, you can't do it all the time without expecting some side effects. The main thing to be stressed her though is it generally only happens to very heavy users who have been using cannabis for a long time.

And no I don't work for freevibe. I smoke cannabis myself every weekend and used to smoke all the time but have cut back of late.

    IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD!

except for the lungs...but yea unless u smoke up a storm, it'll be cool. and if ur really worried about it then invest in a vaporizer

Maybe that applies to someone getting a little paranoid at times but to think that applies to full blown psychosis is naieve to say the least (although technically it is in the head ;)).

Smoking dope for 15 years hasn't changed me at all. If I quit however, I will kill you.

I take back what I said about you workin for freevibe, haha, sorry.

That cannabis psychosis seems like it would be a very very rare disorder though, because there are also alot of people that smoke large amounts on a regular basis for long periods of time and are fine when they stop or don't. If it where more common, I woulda thought the anti-drug organizations would jump on that as a reason, and I haven't ever seen that mentioned.

All i know is that I had to run 5 miles a day, everyday for preseason sports and the weed didnt slow my lungs down at all. I guess if you do it for a while it might hurt your lungs in the later in life.

Psychosis is very rare but most heavy smokers who give up do get some sorta side effects whether it be loss of sleep, easily stressed out, paranoia, slight depression etc. I gave up for a while before after smoking everyday for about 3 years and had awful trouble sleeping for a few weeks and was very easily stressed out, although I think the stress wasn't helped by the lack of sleep. I think dope is like everything, it's fine in moderation.

Going by Spacer's logic you could easily say the same about caffeine in soda. You keep giving your head caffeine for so many years every day and it's going to affect the way you think. If you suddenly go cold turkey on caffeine however I don't think you're going to go psychotic, if anything it would help you think clearer, not create psychosis. The same can be said for THC.

No because caffeine effects you in a totally different way and isn't a psycho-active substance, it is merely a mild stimulant. So no the same wouldn't apply for THC. Also if you had read the thread properly you would realise that I said it rarely happens, only really where someone has being comsuming large amounts of high-powered weed over a very long period of time.

No I read the thread properly. I understood what you were saying about people who smoke every day for years are the rare cases. I see your point more now, but I'm still not convinced. You could be right, however I find it very hard to believe reports which the government releases as Bush is one of the most conservative presidents we have had in years.

Also, since when is a stimulant not psycho-active. Have you ever taken adderal? That's certainly a stimulant. It lifts your moods, allows you to focus. The same can be said for high doses of caffeine, they certainly affect your thought process. Maybe not as much as marijuana, but they still affect it.

The only problem here is that psychosis and psycho-active are pretty general words. I guess what irks me most is that I interpreted you using the word as if you were some crazed person who committed crimes.

Some people are susceptable to psychosis, which can lead to schizophrenia too. These people generally fall to it when theyre old, but if they smoke, it can and does come out sooner.

Just caus it doesnt affect you, or you dont notice, that doesnt mean its not an issue.

Like attention span. some stoners say it doesnt affect them at all, theyve been smoking for years and their attention span isnt slowed down. well people who say that most probably jsut dont realise the difference. It affects me, and everyone who claims it doesnt affect that i know, has always had a worse attention span. sure there are heaps of smart ppl who smoke weed, but intelligence and marks even can be made with the attention span of a monkey.

It does affect your memory, but this is not a long term thing, despite being a 'long term' thing. It goes away after days/weeks (depending on how much yuve been smoking)

but yeh caffine is psycho active. moreso, tell

that to a hardcore caffine addict whos got no coffee. They are definately affected, and do not think clearly, nor act completely sane.
